This MIDEA MIDEA28 wall-mounted heat pump installation in Sainte-Justine-de-Newton represents exactly the type of project where the final result looks simple, even though choosing the location requires genuine technical consideration.
In the photo of our installation, the Midea indoor unit is installed high on a light gray wall, relatively close to the ceiling and near the room’s right corner. The wall in front of the unit is largely unobstructed, allowing the air-supply louvers to distribute air throughout the space without immediately encountering a cabinet, beam, or other obstacle.
The final appearance is intentionally discreet. The heat pump’s white façade contrasts slightly with the wall while remaining visually understated, and the integrated digital display makes it easy to check the temperature while the unit is operating.

The positioning shown in the photo allows the unit to blow directly toward the open area of the room. The louvers can then adjust the airflow direction according to heating or cooling needs.
The MIDEA28 has several specific functions designed to control this airflow. Midea notably indicates for the MIDEA35, MIDEA28, and MIDEA25 series a fan speed setting from 1% to 100%, as well as horizontal and vertical swing, silent mode, Turbo function, and night mode.

What looks simple on the wall rests on several hidden connections
Once the installation is complete, the homeowner mainly sees the evaporator.
Behind this finish, however, are several essential components: refrigerant lines, communication wiring, electrical connections, and condensate drainage.
One of the major advantages of a ductless heat pump is that it does not require the construction of a complete air-duct system throughout the residence. Midea explains that the indoor unit can be connected to the outdoor unit through a relatively small opening, which limits demolition, repair, and painting work.

The 9,000 BTU/h version is the one that reaches 27.4 SEER2 in the documentation provided. The other capacities achieve 25.4, 21.4, 21.0, and 19.5 SEER2, respectively.

The product name is a starting point. The model number and AHRI number provide the genuinely useful information.
At -15 °C, the MIDEA28 retains significant heating capacity
To understand how a heat pump actually performs in winter, we examine, among other things, its available capacity at low temperatures.
At -15 °C, Midea indicates a nominal heating capacity of 11,500 BTU/h for the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU/h versions, 18,000 BTU/h for the 18,000 version, 24,200 BTU/h for the 24,000 version and 35,000 BTU/h for the 33,000 version.
All MIDEA28 configurations in this document are rated to operate in heating mode down to -30 °C.
This information provides an important distinction: a minimum operating temperature alone does not indicate how much heat the unit will provide at that temperature.

For the MIDEA28, the documentation indicates very different indoor sound levels depending on capacity and fan speed. The 9,000, 12,000, and 18,000 BTU/h versions can go as low as approximately 19.5 dB(A) in the specified silent setting, while the 24,000 BTU/h version is rated at up to 16 dB(A).
This feature allows the heat pump to maintain a comfortable temperature without necessarily becoming the dominant sound source in the room.
R-454B: an important technical detail for this generation of Midea
The MIDEA28 uses R-454B refrigerant. The brochure also indicates features related to A2L refrigerant leak detection and a dispersion system intended for the applicable series.
This detail influences commissioning practices, work methods, and the equipment used by technicians.
For the homeowner, these aspects remain largely invisible. For us, they are an integral part of a professional installation.
Pipe diameters change significantly depending on the capacity
The MIDEA28 perfectly illustrates why we never automatically reuse an old refrigerant circuit without verification.
Depending on the capacity, Midea requires 1/4 in – 3/8 in, 1/4 in – 1/2 in, 3/8 in – 5/8 in or even 3/8 in – 3/4 in. The maximum length ranges from 82 ft to 164 ft, with a maximum elevation difference of up to 82 ft on the larger versions.
This means that two heat pumps both bearing the MIDEA28 name can have very different installation requirements.
Same goes for the electrical requirements
The documented MIDEA28 units use a 208/230 V single-phase, 60 Hz power supply, but the required amperage varies with capacity. The technical data sheet indicates a minimum allowable ampacity of 15 A on the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU/h versions, 19 A on the 18,000, 24.9 A on the 24,000, and 34 A on the 33,000 BTU/h versions. The indicated maximum overcurrent protection ratings are 15, 15, 20, 25, and 35 A, respectively.
We therefore always verify the exact model before determining the required electrical circuit.
And the LogisVert subsidy?
The documentation provided confirms that the MIDEA28 configurations shown are associated with specific AHRI numbers and the designation Cold Climate V6.1.
However, it does not, on its own, provide an applicable LogisVert subsidy amount for this Sainte-Justine-de-Newton installation.
To determine financial assistance, the exact combination installed, its AHRI number, its capacity relevant to the program calculation, as well as the criteria in effect on the project date.
We therefore prefer to confirm the amount based on this information rather than turn a brochure feature into a subsidy promise.

The photographed unit remains relatively accessible on its unobstructed wall.
This is important because the filters will need to be removed and cleaned periodically.

When an evaporator is placed too close to an architectural feature, this type of work can become much more complicated. Service access must therefore be anticipated from the outset.
