Installation of a Sharp ZU1 Wall-Mounted Heat Pump in Saint-Constant
Experience ultimate comfort with the Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump in Saint-Constant—energy-efficient, eco-friendly, and backed by the highest LogisVert grant in Quebec!

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Enhancing Comfort and Efficiency in a Saint-Constant Home with the 18,000 BTU Sharp ZU1
At AirGreen, we pride ourselves on delivering top-tier HVAC solutions tailored to our customers’ needs across Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, Rive Nord, and Rive Sud. Recently, we had the pleasure of completing a seamless installation of a Sharp ZU1 18,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump in Saint-Constant. This state-of-the-art mini split combines remarkable energy efficiency, advanced air purification technologies, and a robust design ideal for our Quebec winters, heating efficiently even at temperatures as low as -27°C.
A Smooth HVAC Solution for a Family in Saint-Constant
The project was initiated when a homeowner in Saint-Constant reached out to us seeking a reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly HVAC solution for their property. With the ever-changing Quebec climate, they needed a system that could both cool their home during the summer heatwaves and heat efficiently throughout harsh winters. After carefully assessing their home’s size and needs, our team recommended the Sharp ZU1 heat pump. Given its impressive 24.0 SEER efficiency rating, Plasmacluster technology, and its ability to qualify for the highest grant in Quebec—a staggering $2,640 LogisVert Grant by Hydro-Québec—it was the perfect match.
Why the Sharp ZU1 Is the Best Choice for Quebec Homes
Cutting-Edge R-32 Refrigerant for Efficiency and Sustainability
One standout feature of the Sharp ZU1 is its use of R-32 refrigerant. Unlike conventional refrigerants, R-32 is more eco-friendly, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency by up to 10%. With Quebec transitioning to stricter energy regulations by 2025, the ZU1 is already ahead of the curve.
Plasmacluster Technology: Air Purification at Its Finest
Sharp's patented Plasmacluster technology is another game-changer. This unique feature replicates natural air purification by diffusing ions into the air, neutralizing airborne viruses, allergens, mold, and odors. The Saint-Constant homeowners particularly appreciated this as it ensures cleaner, healthier indoor air—a significant advantage for families with allergies or respiratory concerns.
Key Benefits of Plasmacluster:
- Eliminates airborne viruses and bacteria.
- Fights odors, mold, and tobacco residue.
- Reduces allergens for cleaner indoor air.
Coanda Airflow for Ultimate Comfort
With Sharp's innovative Coanda airflow control, the ZU1 provides precise air distribution to ensure a uniform and comfortable temperature. Instead of blasting air directly on the occupants, the system gently guides airflow along walls and ceilings, achieving a natural and even temperature balance throughout the home.
Highlights of the Coanda Effect:
- Prevents uncomfortable drafts.
- Enhances temperature harmony across multiple rooms.
- Directs airflow strategically for heating and cooling.

A Focus on Durability and Reliability
At AirGreen, we understand that HVAC systems must endure Quebec's extreme weather conditions. The Sharp ZU1 excels in this area with features designed for durability and reliable performance:
- Heating at -27°C: Thanks to Sharp's patented Hot Gas Pipe technology, the ZU1 operates seamlessly even in extreme cold.
- Anticorrosive Coating: Protects the outdoor compressor from harsh weather elements.
- Quick Defrost Function: Reduces defrost time by 60%, ensuring uninterrupted indoor comfort.
The multiple drainage holes on the outdoor unit also prevent ice buildup, a common issue during Quebec's freezing winters. This attention to detail ensures longevity and reduces maintenance costs.
Installation Details: Precision and Care
During the Saint-Constant installation, our certified technicians ensured everything was executed to perfection. The exterior Sharp ZU1 compressor, with dimensions 33.47 x 13 x 27.94 inches, was mounted securely on a custom bracket to provide stability and protect the unit from snow and debris. The indoor head, sleek and modern with dimensions 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, was strategically positioned for optimal airflow distribution.
Technical Highlights:
- Cooling Capacity: 18,000 BTU
- Heating Capacity: Efficient operation down to -27°C
- Sound Levels: Whisper-quiet operation at 25 dB(A) indoors and 52 dB(A) outdoors.
- WiFi Connectivity: Seamless control via smartphone, providing real-time adjustments and energy monitoring.
Eligible for Exceptional Grants
One of the most compelling benefits of installing the Sharp ZU1 is its eligibility for significant grants:
- Hydro-Québec LogisVert Grant: $2,640 (the highest for an 18,000 BTU machine in Quebec!).
- Federal Greener Homes Grant: Up to $5,000. These grants make the Sharp ZU1 not only a smart investment for comfort but also an economically savvy choice for homeowners.
A Modern Solution for Year-Round Comfort
The Sharp ZU1 is designed with modern technology to adapt to the needs of today’s homeowners. Its features include:
- Energy Star® Certification: Ensures high energy efficiency and performance.
- Multi-Space Function: Balances temperatures across multiple rooms with ease.
- Self-Cleaning Mode: Prevents mold and extends the system’s lifespan.
- Winter Cool Mode: Provides cooling even during cooler seasons, down to -10°C.
- Auto Restart: Ensures seamless operation after power outages.
With its motion sensors, the Sharp ZU1 optimizes energy use by detecting activity and adjusting performance accordingly. Its smart connectivity also allows homeowners to control settings remotely, monitor energy consumption, and receive real-time temperature updates.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
