Installation of a Sharp ZHU1 heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie (Montreal)
AirGreen installs a Sharp ZHU1 ECO Inverter wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont, combining energy efficiency, 4-season comfort and perfect aesthetic integration in a Montreal duplex.

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
A custom installation for optimal comfort in a Montreal duplex
In the vibrant Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood, an AirGreen client wanted to modernize their air conditioning and heating system while reducing their energy consumption. We recommended and installed a Sharp ZHU1 ECO Inverter wall-mounted heat pump , a high-performance solution tailored to the needs of a typical Montreal urban home.
An HVAC solution designed for efficiency and aesthetics
The Sharp ZHU1 ECO Inverter is renowned for its ideal balance of performance, reliability and compact design. This unit combines energy-efficient inverter technology with Sharp's exclusive Plasmacluster Ion system, which improves indoor air quality by neutralizing bacteria and allergens.
At AirGreen, we chose this wall-mounted heat pump not only for its heating capacity down to -25°C , but also for its exceptional energy efficiency (high SEER and HSPF) . It perfectly meets the comfort requirements of a Montreal home inhabited all year round.
Technical details of the Sharp ZHU1 unit
-
Capacity: 12,000 BTU
-
Technology: Inverter DC ECO
-
Compressor: variable speed for fine comfort regulation
-
Refrigerant gas: R-32 (ecological and efficient)
-
Plasmacluster Ion: integrated air purification
-
Noise level: particularly low, ideal for urban environments
Installation process by the AirGreen team
The installation took place in a renovated brick duplex , typical of the Rosemont area. The client had a small outdoor space adjacent to a paved terrace: a configuration requiring precise planning of the condenser positioning .
Support and positioning of the outdoor unit
We fixed the Sharp condenser to a galvanized aluminum wall bracket approximately 50 cm from the floor, ensuring:
-
Protection against snow and debris ;
-
Better gravity flow of condensate ;
-
Unobstructed airflow to maximize thermal efficiency.
The alignment has been carefully adjusted to minimize vibration and noise , using certified anti-vibration pads . This configuration ensures lasting stability while preserving the peace of mind of occupants and the neighborhood.
Passage of refrigerant pipes
The pipes connecting the outdoor unit to the indoor head were covered under a discreet white capping , harmonized with the color of the facade cladding. All electrical wiring and the condensate drain were installed according to RBQ and CSA standards, with a dedicated circuit protected at the main electrical panel.
Aesthetic and functional integration
The challenge of this installation lay in the space constraints specific to the Plateau and Rosemont buildings. Our team therefore optimized the refrigeration line routing to minimize their length while ensuring maximum energy efficiency.
The outdoor unit, facing south , benefits from optimal sunshine during the winter, thus improving performance in heating mode.
A heat pump adapted to Quebec winters
The Sharp ZHU1 series is designed to operate efficiently even in extreme temperatures down to -25°C . Thanks to its intelligent inverter compressor , the heat pump automatically adjusts its power according to the current needs, allowing:
-
Substantial energy savings ;
-
Stable comfort in all seasons;
-
Extended life of internal components.
Performance and energy efficiency
This installation benefits from superior energy efficiency, often qualifying the customer for Quebec subsidy programs related to energy efficiency (such as Chauffez vert or Hydro-Québec assistance*).
We always support our customers in verifying the eligibility of their equipment, in order to maximize their savings both at the time of purchase and in the long term.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
What to do, season by season
Three habits per season for this unit. They take a few minutes and prevent many calls.
- Clean the indoor unit's filters.
- Clear leaves and debris left on the outdoor unit by winter.
- Test cooling before the first hot days.
- Clean the filters more often when the unit runs a lot.
- Keep plants away from the outdoor unit.
- Check that no water drips from the indoor unit.
- Rake the leaves around the outdoor unit.
- Test heating before the first cold days.
- Book periodic maintenance before winter.
- Keep snow away from the stand and the front of the unit.
- Let the unit defrost: it is normal.
- Never hit the ice on the fins; call us if the unit stays iced up.
