American Standard thermostats: the right control depends on your system
A furnace or heat pump on 24 V from any brand does not take the same thermostat as an American Standard or Trane AccuLink communicating system. Answer three questions and the right control shows up, with what the manufacturer says about it.
Which control fits my system?
1. Your equipment
2. Number of zones
3. What you want

AirGreen × American Standard
American Standard’s controls, a local install.
American Standard, a Trane Technologies trade name, designs the thermostats and the AccuLink communicating line. AirGreen looks with you at what is in your basement and picks the control that goes with it. Each does what it does best.
What American Standard brings
- Two families of controlsThe Gold for 24 V systems of any brand, the AccuLink family for American Standard or Trane communicating equipment.
- 5 heat + 2 cool stagesGold, Gold 824, Platinum 850 and 1050 on a heat pump, according to American Standard’s pages.
- Up to 8 zonesAccuLink zoning with the Platinum 1050 and Platinum 1040 sensors, according to the 2026 zoning brochure.
- 10 years registered, 5 years baseGold 824, Platinum 850 and 1050, on internal parts, on American Standard’s terms; labour is not covered.
What AirGreen brings
- Sold and installed by AirGreenAmerican Standard thermostats and controls, in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore.

The result: the American Standard control that speaks your system’s language, chosen with you.
03 Communicating or 24 V
AccuLink: the equipment and the thermostat speak the same language
What American Standard says. The Platinum 850 and 1050 work with AccuLink communicating and AccuComfort variable-speed systems; their pages state they are not compatible with other brands or with standard single- or two-stage systems.
It works the other way too. An AccuLink unit’s communicating mode needs an AccuLink control: the catalogue note names the ACONT850, AZONE950 and AZON1050.
One thing to check on site. The 2022 residential catalogue allows a conventional system through an accessory relay panel, which the current pages do not mention. For that setup: on quotation.
The Gold and Gold 824 do the opposite: standard 24 V systems from any brand, not communicating variable-speed or zoned systems.
04 AccuLink zoning
Several zones: the Platinum 1050 at the centre, 1040 sensors in the zones
Maximum of 8 AccuLink zones: American Standard zoning brochure 15-4156-10 (2026). Panel and expander, 4 sensors per zone, software 5.7: Trane literature for the twin models (TZON1050, TZON1040).
05 Gold 824 → Gold
On August 7, 2026, the Gold took over from the Gold 824
Manufacturer announcement
American Standard presents the Gold as the Gold 824’s replacement, no longer offered for new systems. Support for the 824 continues.
What changes
Dual-band Wi-Fi, occupancy sensing and geofencing, up to 6 wireless temperature and humidity sensors.
What has not changed yet
As of October 14, 2026, the ENERGY STAR list and the Énergir list name the Gold 824, not the new Gold.
According to American Standard’s announcement, the Gold can be used for a Gold 824 warranty claim.
06 Manufacturer warranty
Registered within 60 days or not: the warranty is not the same
American Standard limited warranty on internal parts. Registered = installed by a licensed American Standard or Trane dealer and registered in American Standard Home within 60 days. Labour is not covered in either case.

08 The brand
American Standard and Trane: the same company
Trane Technologies sells under the Trane and American Standard names. The controls often have a Trane twin (TCONT, TZON instead of ACONT, AZON). The app for the connected controls on this page is American Standard Home.
09 FAQ
Questions about American Standard thermostats
Which American Standard thermostat for another brand’s heat pump?
The Gold: American Standard describes it as compatible with standard single- or two-stage 24 V systems of any brand, up to 5 heat and 2 cool stages on a heat pump or dual fuel. It is not for communicating variable-speed systems.
Can a Platinum 850 or 1050 run a conventional system?
American Standard’s current pages say no. The 2022 residential catalogue allowed an accessory relay panel for that case. The two sources disagree: that setup is checked on site, on quotation.
What is AccuLink?
American Standard’s communicating line: thermostats, furnaces, heat pumps and indoor units that exchange data. The manufacturer requires an AccuLink control for these units’ communicating mode.
How many zones with the Platinum 1050?
Up to 8 zones with AccuLink zoning, according to the 2026 zoning brochure. You also need an American Standard zoning system and, per the Trane twin literature, an indoor unit with a variable-speed blower.
What does the Platinum 1040 sensor do?
It is both a sensor and a zone thermostat: it sends its zone temperature to the Platinum 1050. Each zone schedule is created on the 1050.
Is the Gold 824 still offered?
American Standard replaced it with the Gold on August 7, 2026 and no longer offers it for new systems; support continues. It is still in our store: availability is confirmed on quotation.
What is the warranty?
Gold 824, Platinum 850 and 1050: 10 years if registered, 5 years otherwise, on internal parts. Gold: 10 years registered; the manufacturer does not publish its base term. Labour is never covered.
Is there a rebate for these thermostats?
Only Énergir’s $100 rebate on the Gold 824, if your main heating is natural gas. Hydro-Québec LogisVert does not fund any thermostat.
Is the new Gold ENERGY STAR?
American Standard announces it as certified, but it is not in the ENERGY STAR dataset as of October 14, 2026. On this page, only the Gold 824 is presented as ENERGY STAR.
Which app do these thermostats use?
American Standard Home, for the Gold, Gold 824, Platinum 850 and Platinum 1050. They also work with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
What about the ACONT200?
A non-programmable thermostat with 1 heat and 1 cool stage, no app. It no longer appears on the current American Standard site.
Who makes American Standard?
Trane Technologies, which sells under the Trane and American Standard names. Several controls on this page have a Trane twin.
