AMERISTAR wall air conditioner

Air conditioner only or 17 Series heat pump? Both share the same sizes and the same sell sheet (92-1047-04). At 12,000 BTU/h, the sheet gives SEER2 17 for the M4TCS17 air conditioner and SEER2 16.5 for the M4THS17 heat pump; the heat pump adds 13,000 BTU/h of nominal heating.

The list of heads approved for the 19 Series multi-zone holds heat pump heads only: no M4MCW air conditioner head is on it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the wall air conditioner heat?

No: the M4TCS17 provides cooling only. To heat at the same size, you need the 17 Series heat pump (M4THS17): 13,000 BTU/h of nominal heating at 12,000 BTU/h.

Which breaker is needed?

Per the sell sheet: 15 A for the 9,000 and 12,000 air conditioners, 20 A for the 18,000, 30 A for the 24,000. The 24,000 air conditioner's submittal gives 20 A; the nameplate of the installed air conditioner is what counts.

Does the air conditioner always run at full power?

No: according to its submittal, the 24,000 cools from 5,289 to 25,249 BTU/h at 35°C (95°F) outdoors.
