An electric furnace means the ducts and a forced-air unit are already there. Two LENNOX paths replace it with an air handler and a heating element: the MMD with an MMLD or MMPD (R-32), or the CBA25UH with a Merit (R-410A).
Certified heat: the system’s ENERGY STAR rating at 17 °F (-8.3 °C), the one Hydro-Québec uses for LogisVert. Merit: only the ML17XP1 has Canada-listed combinations, from 1.5 to 4 tons; the ML14XP1 and ML16XP1 have no ENERGY STAR listing. The Merit also comes in 3.5 and 5 tons.

Both R-32 outdoor units match the same MMD, with the same cooling rating. The MMLD heats down to -25 °C and has a base pan heater; the MMPD stops at -20 °C.
Pink rows are the differences. Ratings: ENERGY STAR (Oct. 28, 2026); ranges, piping and MCA: LENNOX forms 211076 and 211078 (Dec. 2025); -25 °C point: NEEP, manufacturer-declared value. At Montréal-Trudeau, about 12 nights a year drop below -20 °C (1991-2020 normals). Below that, the MMPD is outside its range.
LENNOX’s single-zone MMLD form matches it with the MMD, the MDDD and MMDD ducted units, the M22D, M33D and M1WD cassettes, and the MFMD floor console. Depending on the size, an MMLD heats through ducts or without them.

After an outage of more than an hour below 10 °C, LENNOX asks to keep the ML17XP1 on emergency heat for at least six hours before normal operation.

MMLD 12,000: LENNOX publishes no combination with an MMD. The AHRI number on its page (216581330) is, in the ENERGY STAR registry, another LENNOX system’s: the amount waits for the chosen indoor unit. Merit: our pages carry no AHRI number, so we show no amount.

The Merit runs on R-410A with a single-speed compressor. The MMLD runs on R-32 and varies its output: with the MMD, the 30,000 heats from 10,000 to 43,000 BTU/h per the LENNOX sheet. At 3 tons, its certified heat at -8.3 °C is 29,000 BTU/h, against 21,600 to 24,000 for the ML17XP1, depending on the Canada-listed combination.
LENNOX publishes no minimum heating temperature for the ML14XP1, ML16XP1 or ML17XP1. It does ask, after an outage of more than an hour below 10 °C, to keep the ML17XP1 on emergency heat for at least six hours. The MMLD heats down to -25 °C; the MMPD, down to -20 °C.
You can. The Merit matches an indoor coil set on the furnace, per its AHRI combination. The MMLD and MMPD need a LENNOX indoor unit such as the MMD, in place of the furnace. Any work on the gas or oil appliance is done by a licensed partner.
