Quick facts
A 48 kW commercial boiler for 480 V systems
The BTH ULTRA XL in its 480 V version
Thermo 2000 offers its BTH ULTRA XL commercial line, called the BTH ULTRA XL 2.0 in its specification document, from 40 to 72 kW. On 480 V three-phase, the 48 kW model is the first size: it produces 163,776 BTU/h according to the manufacturer, with 277 V elements controlled in four stages. On this kind of system, it draws only 57.7 A.
This version is meant for industrial and commercial buildings whose electrical distribution is 480 V. It heats the hot-water loop that serves offices, locker rooms or work areas, and Thermo 2000 also presents it as backup for a heat pump, a geothermal or a solar system.
In a South Shore plant
Take a plant on the South Shore supplied at 480 V, whose offices and cafeteria are heated by a hot-water loop. When the old boiler gives out, staying on the same voltage is simpler than reworking the electrical distribution. The 48 kW BTH ULTRA XL then connects to a circuit whose protection is set according to the electrical code, with a supply wire of up to 2/0 per Thermo 2000.
Its size also helps in a mechanical room already filled with other equipment. The cabinet measures 23 3/8 x 12 3/4 x 23 1/4 in (W x D x H), weighs 180 lb and holds 8 US gal (30 L) of water. It mounts on the wall or sits on the floor on an optional stand. The water connections are 1 1/2 in male NPT and the maximum working pressure is 30 psi (207 kPa).
What protects the unit and the building
In a plant, a boiler has to run without constant supervision. The T2 UltraSmart spreads output over four stages based on demand and follows the outdoor temperature through the supplied sensor; warm weather shutdown is set between 0 and 105 °F, and Boost mode and pump purge are added to its functions. The low water cut-off, with test button and indicator lights, is included, as is the 30 psi (ASME) relief valve. The specification document also mentions two limit controls, fuses and 2 in fibreglass insulation.
An installation planned around production
Our estimate visit, free of charge, is used to record the system’s actual voltage, the available space and the condition of the loop. The written quote then lists everything needed: the boiler, the floor stand if you choose it, and the circulator and expansion tank, which Thermo 2000 does not supply. On the day of the work, set with you so it does not disrupt production, we mount the unit, make the hydronic and electrical connections, fill and purge the loop and set the outdoor sensor curve. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years (parts and accessories).

Frequently asked questions
Why the 480 V version?
Because it matches the building’s voltage: a boiler is supplied at the voltage it is built for. If your building is on 600 V or 240 V, the BTH ULTRA XL also comes in those voltages.
How much current does it draw?
57.7 A on 480 V three-phase, per Thermo 2000. The supply wire can be up to 2/0; circuit protection is set according to the electrical code.
Can it be installed on the floor?
Yes. Thermo 2000 provides for wall or floor installation; floor mounting uses an optional stand.
What does Thermo 2000 supply with the boiler?
A 30 psi (ASME) relief valve, a drain valve, the outdoor sensor, the low water cut-off, a temperature and pressure gauge, and fittings and reducers.
What is the warranty?
Thermo 2000 offers a 10-year limited warranty on the tank (closed-loop heating, residential and commercial) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components (parts and accessories).
