A small 10 US gallon tank for the workshop, the office or the cottage

Not every building needs a large tank. A garage workshop with a utility sink, a small office with a kitchenette, a commercial space with a washbasin or a cottage used mostly in summer have modest needs, but they deserve reliable hot water. The Bradford White RE110U6-1NAL electric water heater meets these uses with a tank of 10 US gallons (8 imperial gallons, 38 L), a single 1,500 W element and a 120 V supply. AirGreen installs it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.

The middle size of the utility line

Bradford White's residential utility line has three compact sizes. The RE110U6-1NAL sits in the middle: more reserve than the very small model designed to hide under a sink, but a much smaller footprint than the largest size in the line. At 17 7/16 in. tall and 16 in. in diameter, it fits on a workshop floor, in a utility closet or under a deep enough counter. Its weight of 44 lb also makes it easy to carry down a narrow staircase or into an accessible crawl space.

What it is used for

This tank is made for occasional needs: washing hands after dirty work, rinsing tools, doing the dishes in an office kitchenette or supplying the sink of a small break room. In a business, it can serve a washbasin and a utility sink located in the same spot. It is not designed for a daily shower or to replace a home's water heater; for those uses, we offer you a standard-size residential tank.

Voltage and wattage: the available options

The RE110U6-1NAL is factory-wired for 120 V with a 1,500 W element, so it can be fed by an ordinary 120 V circuit reserved for the unit. Bradford White offers the series in 120 V, 208 V, 240 V, 277 V and 480 V, single-phase only. Its limitations table covers wattages from 1,500 W to 6,000 W depending on the voltage; at 120 V, only wattages from 1,500 W to 3,000 W are allowed. A different configuration must be specified when ordering. In a workshop where a 240 V panel is already in place, we assess with you whether another combination is useful, but the factory configuration suits most of the uses described here.

Recovery suited to occasional needs

At 1,500 W, the element heats 7 US gallons per hour for a 90 °F rise. In practical terms, the 10 US gallon reserve is rebuilt in under an hour and a half after being completely drained, which works well for uses spread out over the day. For continuous use, such as repeatedly filling a large tub, a larger size or a different wattage would be more appropriate.

Construction and compliance

The tank is protected by the Vitraglas with Microban lining, and the copper immersion element screws into the tank, which makes it easy to replace. The factory-installed dielectric fittings separate the steel of the tank from the copper of the piping. Bradford White states that all models in the series are UL listed, and that applicable models are verified by CSA for energy performance under standard C191.1-M90.

Manufacturer's warranty

This model has a 6-year limited warranty on the tank and 6 years on parts. The full terms are attached to the quote.

AirGreen installs your RE110U6-1NAL cleanly and by the rules

AirGreen is a family-owned heating and cooling company established in Montreal, active for more than fifteen years and holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). We start with a free on-site estimate, then give you a written quote. Installation includes:

  • assessing the location, access to the connections and protection against freezing;
  • draining and removing the old tank, where applicable;
  • connecting the cold and hot water in 3/4 in. NPT;
  • installing the relief valve and its discharge line to a safe location;
  • the electrical connection on a 120 V circuit reserved for the unit;
  • filling the tank completely, powering it up and setting the temperature;
  • maintenance advice and, if needed, seasonal draining instructions.

Lightly heated buildings and cottages

In a garage or cottage that is not heated year-round, the water in the tank and piping can freeze during the Quebec winter and damage the tank. If the building stays cold for several weeks, we show you how to cut the power, shut off the water and drain the tank completely before the cold season, then how to fill it before powering it up again in spring. For a heated building, one partial flush per year and a test of the relief valve are enough.

Service area

We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Mirabel, Kirkland, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Beloeil, Saint-Constant and everywhere on the South Shore and the North Shore. If the installation is part of a larger project, our financing lets you spread out the cost.
