BRADFORD WHITE CEHD80 45 to 54 kW Commercial Electric Water Heater (80 gallons) | Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, South Shore & North Shore
Hot showers for one team, then the next: 80 US gallons and nine elements for locker rooms
In an arena, a sports centre or a swim club, hot water demand arrives all at once. A game ends, twenty players hit the showers at the same time, and the next team is already waiting its turn. The Bradford White CEHD80 commercial electric water heater, in its nine-element version offered at 45 kW or 54 kW, is built for these successive waves. Its 80 US gallon tank (67 imperial gallons, 303 L) absorbs the first rush, and its installed power brings it back to temperature before the next. AirGreen installs it in sports facilities and institutional buildings in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore.
This model is of interest to managers of municipal or private sports centres, schools with locker rooms, high-traffic gyms and training studios, as well as camps and outdoor centres that host groups.
The locker-room peak, a particular challenge
Most buildings use their hot water in a spread-out way. A locker room uses it in very short, very intense blocks. During those few minutes, the reserve drops quickly; between two blocks, the unit has only a short interval to recover. That interval decides whether the second team gets hot water or lukewarm water.
A large tank with little power often fails that test: it handles the first group well, then runs out of breath. The nine-element CEHD80 answers this scenario by combining a comfortable reserve with high installed power. We always validate that choice against your real schedule: number of locker rooms, frequency of games and classes, shower head flow.

Nine elements: 45 kW or 54 kW
The nine-element version comes in only two power ratings, and the manufacturer allows the unit to be converted from one to the other. That flexibility is useful in a sports centre whose traffic changes: a unit installed at 45 kW can move to 54 kW if a new league or a new schedule raises demand, provided the electrical service allows it.
The initial choice rests on peak demand and the building’s capacity. We calculate the need from your schedule, then check what the panel can accept. The selected power is written into the quote and confirmed at ordering, along with the voltage and phase.
What this power means for the building
A 45 kW or 54 kW water heater is a significant load, comparable to several large appliances combined. It requires an electrical service able to supply it, a breaker and conductors of the right size, and a wiring route to the mechanical room. The manufacturer ships every unit in the standard three-phase configuration, and the voltage, chosen among the values offered from 208 V to 600 V, must be specified when ordering. On 600 V models, only conversion of the kW rating is permitted.
Depending on the building’s electricity rate, power demand can also affect the bill. That is one more reason to size the unit precisely rather than reaching for the maximum by reflex.
Where to install it in a sports complex
The ideal spot is a mechanical room close to the locker rooms, to limit piping length and the wait for hot water at the showers. The CEHD80 measures 26 in. in diameter and 61 1/4 in. in height and weighs 335 lb empty: it needs a solid floor, access through a wide enough door and a floor drain for the relief valve and flushing. Nine elements also call for enough clearance in front of the access panels, which we reserve from the planning stage.
Sturdy enough for a public building
In a building open to the public, equipment has to stand up to handling. The low-restriction brass drain valve has a vandal-resistant design, and the factory-installed true dielectric fittings protect the joint between the tank and the piping. The inside of the tank is lined with Vitraglas with Microban, an antimicrobial technology. According to Bradford White’s documentation, the design is UL certified for field conversion, ASME construction is available and NSF kits are offered.
Maintenance in season and off season
Many sports facilities live by the seasons. We recommend using a quiet period for the annual maintenance: flushing through the brass valve, which clears sediment well, checking the nine elements and their connections, and testing the relief valve. The screw-in elements are replaced one at a time, which avoids shutting the locker rooms during the season.
Model number and warranty
The full model number of a CEHD specifies the power, voltage, phase and ASME option; it is therefore set with you and confirmed at ordering. The manufacturer’s warranty terms that apply to the selected unit are stated in the written quote, along with the documentation to hand to the building manager.
Installation of the Bradford White CEHD80 (45 to 54 kW) by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal, active for more than fifteen years in heating, ventilation and air conditioning and holder of RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). In a sports centre, we schedule the replacement around the activity calendar to avoid closing the locker rooms mid-season. Our work includes:
- a free on-site assessment of peak demand, the mechanical room and the electrical service;
- a recommendation on power, voltage and phase, confirmed in a written quote;
- draining and removing the old unit, then disposing of it;
- connecting the cold and hot water in 1 1/2 in., the relief valve and its discharge;
- the electrical connections, made under our RBQ licence;
- commissioning, temperature setting and a check of all nine elements;
- a maintenance plan aligned with your calendar.
Service area
We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Brossard, Terrebonne, Repentigny, Vaudreuil-Dorion and throughout the South Shore and the North Shore.
