A 120 US gallon indirect water heater designed for a 200 psi maximum pressure

In a residential tower, an institutional building or an industrial site, water often circulates at a higher pressure than in a house, pushed by a booster pump to reach the upper floors or supply demanding equipment. The Thermo 2000 TurboMax 120-9A 200 indirect water heater is made for these networks: its maximum pressure reaches 200 psi. It combines a 120 US gallon tank, a 58.9 sq. ft. copper coil system and 2 1/2 in potable water connections, with an electric boiler as the heat source. AirGreen installs it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.

Why maximum pressure matters in large buildings

Every unit connected to a building’s water network must withstand the pressure in it, including during peaks and water hammer. In a tall building, pressure is higher on the lower floors, where the mechanical room is usually located. A tank with a 200 psi maximum pressure offers a comfortable margin under these conditions. It also allows hot water production to be installed on the high-pressure side of the network when the design requires it, rather than multiplying pressure-reducing valves.

Manufacturer’s data

Residential towers, institutions and industrial buildings

This model is aimed at buildings where both pressure and demand are high. A residential tower whose mechanical room is in the basement, a healthcare or education facility whose network is kept under pressure by a booster pump, an industrial building where hot water supplies washing stations. In each of these cases, the 120 US gallon reserve absorbs the peaks and the exchanger keeps production going as long as the electric boiler supplies the necessary heat. The 27 gpm maximum flow and the 2 1/2 in connections suit large-diameter distribution.

A pressure margin does not replace safety devices

A high maximum pressure does not remove the need for safety devices. The relief valve is chosen according to the tank’s maximum pressure and capacity, an expansion tank absorbs the expansion of the heated water, and a pressure-reducing valve remains useful when supply pressure exceeds what the other components of the installation accept. We measure the real pressure, including while the booster pump is running, before finalizing the design.

What the 58.9 sq. ft. exchanger can deliver

According to Thermo 2000, the high-exchange-capacity copper coil system heats water instantly. Its exchanger can transfer up to 1,165,000 BTU/h (341 kW) for water at 110 °F, which gives 2,122 US GPH in the first hour and 2,002 US GPH continuous at full capacity. These values assume the boiler supplies that output, which is not the case for every electric boiler; the real continuous output follows the boiler’s capacity and therefore the building’s electrical service. The manufacturer adds that the values must be reduced for high-temperature and continuous-flow applications. Our quote states the expected output with your boiler.

A 540 lb tank to plan for

The TurboMax 120-9A 200 weighs 540 lb empty and is 76 3/4 in high and 28 in in diameter. In a tower, delivery sometimes goes through a freight elevator or a service entrance; in an industrial building, through a garage door. We plan the route, the handling equipment, the floor capacity once the tank is filled, access to a drain and the service space around the fittings and drain valve.

Manufacturer’s warranty

Thermo 2000 offers a 10-year commercial warranty, a 15-year residential warranty and a 2-year warranty on mechanical components. The category applicable to your building is confirmed in writing with the quote.

Installation of the Thermo 2000 TurboMax 120-9A 200 by AirGreen

AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal and active in heating, ventilation and air conditioning for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For this high-pressure indirect water heater, our work includes:

  • measuring the supply pressure, including while the booster pump is running;
  • analysis of hot water needs and of the electric boiler’s capacity;
  • planning of delivery, handling and positioning;
  • connecting the potable water in 2 1/2 in, with thermostatic mixing valve and isolation valves;
  • connecting to the boiler in 2 in, with circulator, check valve and air vents;
  • the relief valve, its discharge pipe, the expansion tank and, if needed, the pressure-reducing valve;
  • wiring the controls, commissioning and a yearly maintenance plan.

We work with property managers, institutions and companies in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, downtown, Nuns’ Island, Saint-Laurent, Boucherville, Terrebonne and across the South Shore and the North Shore. The on-site estimate is free, the quote is written and financing is available.
