BRADFORD WHITE RE2H50S10-1NCTT Heat Pump Water Heater (50 gallons) | Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, South Shore & North Shore
A 50 US gallon heat pump water heater that draws its heat from the basement air
In most homes across Greater Montreal, hot water comes from an electric tank in the basement that heats water with resistance elements alone. The Bradford White RE2H50S10-1NCTT heat pump water heater, part of the AeroTherm range, keeps that familiar format, but it produces most of its heat with a built-in heat pump mounted on top of the tank. The electric elements stay in place to take over when needed. At AirGreen, we install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore, most often to replace an electric tank that has reached the end of its life.
This model is for homeowners who want to cut the share of hot water in their electricity use without changing their habits: the same morning shower, the same evening dishwasher load, with an appliance that works differently. It suits a detached house, a semi-detached or a condo that has a mechanical room. For a family of four, for example, a tank this size is the format already found in many basements, which keeps the replacement simple.
The principle: moving heat instead of producing it
A heating element turns electricity into heat, nothing more. A heat pump moves heat that already exists. A fan draws room air across an evaporator, the refrigerant picks up the heat, the compressor concentrates it, and that heat then passes into the water in the tank. It is the same cycle as a wall-mounted heat pump or an air conditioner, applied to domestic water.
A direct result: the air leaving the unit is cooler and drier than the air it takes in. In summer, this slightly cools and dries the basement, something many homeowners appreciate in a damp basement. In winter, in a heated room, part of the captured heat comes from the house heating system. We factor that into our recommendations instead of promising you a catalogue result.
Five modes to match the household
The control panel offers five modes, which we set with you on commissioning day:
- Heat pump mode (only): the compressor alone heats the water. It is the most frugal mode, suited to steady demand.
- Standard hybrid mode: the heat pump does most of the work and the elements step in as needed. It is also the reference mode for the recovery data published by the manufacturer.
- Hybrid plus mode: it gives the elements a bigger role for periods when demand climbs, for example when visiting relatives mean more showers.
- Electric mode (only): the unit runs like a conventional electric tank, useful as a backup or in a room that has become too cold.
- Vacation mode: it limits operation during an extended absence.

What a 3.44 UEF means
The Uniform Energy Factor compares the energy delivered as hot water with the energy the unit consumes, in a standardized test. At 3.44, the RE2H50S10-1NCTT delivers, under those test conditions, more than three times the electrical energy it uses. A tank with elements alone cannot, by principle, deliver more energy than it receives. In your home, the real result will depend on the room temperature, the mode selected and your habits: that is exactly what we look at with you during the visit.
Where it goes in a Quebec home
The RE2H50S10-1NCTT goes where the tank usually sits: a basement, a mechanical room or a laundry room. Because it draws its heat from the surrounding air, the location must meet the requirements of Bradford White’s installation manual, which we review point by point during the visit, before confirming the project.
Height matters too. At 59 3/16 in. tall, the unit fits under most basement ceilings, but the access needed to service the heat pump must also be planned. We measure the clear height, the stairs and the door frames before confirming the project: the water heater weighs 195 lb empty and its 21 3/4 in. diameter has to clear every passage to its final location.
Finally, room temperature affects performance. A finished, temperate basement offers good conditions all year. In a room that gets quite cold in winter, the elements take on a larger share of the work, and electric mode remains available to keep hot water flowing at all times.
A replacement with familiar connections
This water heater connects like a conventional tank: cold water inlet and hot water outlet in 3/4 in. NPT, with dielectric fittings already installed at the factory to limit corrosion between dissimilar metals. The temperature and pressure relief valve is connected to a discharge pipe that complies with the Quebec Construction Code. The low-restriction brass drain valve makes maintenance flushing quicker.
On the electrical side, the unit runs on 240 V/208 V single-phase, like most residential tanks. Its two elements are wired interlocking: they never heat at the same time. In many homes, the existing circuit is adequate. We check it during the assessment and we make the electrical connections under our RBQ licence.
A protected tank built to last
The inside of the tank is protected by Vitraglas vitreous enamel with Microban, an antimicrobial technology, and by a protective anode rod that wears instead of the steel. The backup electric elements are screw-in, so they can be replaced without removing the unit. According to Bradford White’s documentation, the model is ENERGY STAR certified, UL listed, meets NAECA requirements and is C.E.C. listed.
A 10-year warranty on the tank and parts
The "10" suffix in the model number designates the extended-warranty version: Bradford White gives the RE2H50S10-1NCTT a 10-year limited warranty on the tank and 10 years on parts. For an appliance that combines a tank, a compressor and control electronics, that parts coverage carries real weight. We hand you the manufacturer’s documentation with your invoice so you have it on hand.
Installation of the Bradford White RE2H50S10-1NCTT by AirGreen across Greater Montreal
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal and active for more than fifteen years in heating, ventilation and air conditioning, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). A heat pump water heater calls on the same know-how as the heat pumps we install every day: refrigerant, compressor, airflow and electrical work. Our installation includes:
- a free on-site assessment of the location against the manufacturer’s installation manual: room temperature, clear height, access and the path to the basement;
- a check of the existing electrical circuit and the required electrical connections;
- draining, disconnecting and removing the old tank;
- connecting the cold and hot water in 3/4 in., and the relief valve with its discharge;
- commissioning, choosing the mode and setting the temperature with you;
- clear maintenance advice: keep the air inlet and outlet unobstructed, flush the tank periodically, have the anode checked and test the relief valve.
