Quick facts
Armaflex 520 adhesive is the adhesive Armacell offers for its Armaflex elastomeric insulation. It is used to glue butt joints between two lengths of tube, the slit of insulation fitted over an existing line, and pieces cut from Armaflex sheet.
Why glue insulation joints
On a heat pump suction line, the copper is cold for much of the year. An insulation joint that is simply butted together opens up with vibration and temperature changes; humid air then reaches the metal, condensation forms and runs down the line. A glued joint stays closed and keeps the insulation effective along its whole length.
Two sizes
- 1/2 pint: one residential installation or a few repairs.
- 1 pint: long lines, sheet work and larger jobs.
Precautions
Read the directions and the safety data sheet on the container before use. Apply the adhesive to clean, dry, dust-free surfaces, in a ventilated area and away from any flame: you do not glue insulation while the torch is lit. Close the container tightly after use so the adhesive stays usable.

Frequently asked questions
Do the joints really need glue?
Yes. A joint that is only butted together eventually opens and lets humid air reach the cold copper: that is where condensation starts.
Which size should I choose?
A half pint covers a residential installation. The pint suits long runs and jobs with a lot of sheet work.
Can I use it with other insulation?
Armacell offers it for its Armaflex insulation. For another brand of insulation, follow that maker’s instructions.
Can you install the insulation?
Yes. Our technicians insulate and glue the lines on every heat pump installation in Greater Montréal.
