Quick facts

SoldEach

The A.C.R. copper 90° street elbow has one female end (C), which takes the tube, and one male end (FTG), which has the outside diameter of a tube and fits directly into another fitting. The result: no piece of tube between two fittings, and one less brazed joint.

One less joint when two fittings follow each other

To make a tight offset with two regular elbows, you have to cut a short piece of tube and braze it at both ends. With a street elbow, the male side goes straight into the next elbow, a tee or a coupling. The assembly is more compact, quicker to make and has one less joint to check during the pressure test.

Six diameters, from 3/8 in to 1-1/8 in

This short-radius elbow is available for tubing of 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8 and 1-1/8 in outside diameter. The male side has the same outside diameter as the tube of the selected size.

Short radius or long radius

  • Short radius: the tightest turn, for confined spaces.
  • Long radius: a wider bend, less pressure drop, available from 1/2 to 1-5/8 in.

Good practices

Clean the inside of the female end and the outside of the male side, push in until fully seated, then braze under a light flow of dry nitrogen. Work on a refrigerant circuit is reserved for a qualified refrigeration technician.

01 · What it is for

Two fittings right against each other

The male end has the outside diameter of a tube: it slides straight into an elbow, a tee or a coupling.

  • Two elbows back to back for a tight offset, with no tube stub between them
  • Connecting straight into a tee or a coupling
  • Compact assemblies close to a unit or a coil
  • Repairs in a spot too tight for a tube stub
One joint lessWith no tube stub between two fittings, there is one joint to braze instead of two.
Male × femaleOne end takes the tube (C), the other goes into a fitting (FTG).
More compactThe two fittings sit tight together: the assembly takes as little room as possible.

04 · Before installing

What to know before installing

  • The male end (FTG) has the outside diameter of the same-size tube and fits into a female fitting of that size.
  • Clean the outside of the male end too before fitting it.
  • Seat it fully: push to the bottom of the socket before brazing.
  • Braze with a light flow of dry nitrogen; this work is reserved for a qualified technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does FTG × C mean?

FTG is the male end, which has a tube’s outside diameter and fits into a fitting. C is the female end, which takes the tube.

Why a street elbow instead of a regular one?

To avoid a tube stub and a joint when two fittings follow each other, for example two elbows for a tight offset.

Short radius or long radius?

Short radius is the most compact. Our long-radius street elbow also comes in 1/2 to 1-5/8 in, when pressure drop matters more than space.

Can you install it?

Yes. Our technicians run the refrigerant piping when they install your heat pump, everywhere in Greater Montréal.
