  • Couplings and tees: from 3/16 in to 2-5/8 in; the equal tee adds a branch or a tap.
  • Caps: from 3/8 in to 2-5/8 in, to close an abandoned line or one left for a future connection.
  • Oil traps (P-trap): from 5/8 in to 2-1/8 in, at the bottom of a rising suction line.
  • Brass flare nuts: short version, from 3/16 in to 3/4 in.

Matching the fitting to the job

A fitting is sized to the tube’s outside diameter: a 5/8 in tube takes a 5/8 in fitting. A long radius elbow causes less pressure drop on a long suction line, a short radius fits where space is tight, and a street elbow saves a joint when two fittings follow each other. On a multi-zone system, a standard tee does not replace the manufacturer’s branch fittings. The manual states whether a trap is required.
