Wall Vents and Dampers
The end of a ventilation duct on the exterior wall lets stale air out or fresh air in, and has to stay shut the rest of the time. The vents in this collection terminate the ducts of an air exchanger or a bathroom fan, in a finish that matches the siding.
Two families of vents
- Anti-gust wall hood: a damper that closes on a gasket and is designed not to flap in the wind; Exhaust version for venting, Intake version for fresh air.
- Hood sizes: 4, 5 or 6 in for round duct, or 3-1/4 × 10 in for rectangular duct; galvanized, white, brown or black finish, depending on the combination.
- 2-in-1 wall vent: one model for both intake and exhaust, in 4 in (white, brown, black), 5 in (white, black) and 6 in (white, brown, black).
Choosing and placing them
The size is the diameter of the round duct to connect, often the unit’s collar. For an air exchanger, tell us the function of each vent, keep the intake-to-exhaust distance required by the manufacturer and the code, and place the fresh-air intake away from a dryer vent, a gas vent or a garage. Slope the exhaust duct toward the outside, insulate it through cold spaces and seal the edge to the siding with an exterior sealant. In winter, keep the damper clear of snow.
