Quick facts
The 90° long radius street elbow combines two advantages: a wide bend that puts little restriction on the refrigerant and a male (FTG) end that fits directly into another fitting. The other end, female (C), takes the tube. It comes in 1/2 in to 1-5/8 in, the larger suction line diameters.
Less pressure drop, fewer joints
On a suction line, the gas flows at low pressure and every tight bend adds pressure drop. The long radius keeps it down. Its male end also saves the short piece of tube you would otherwise have to braze between two fittings: one less joint to make and check. We use it on central heat pump lines, in mechanical rooms and on commercial refrigeration circuits.
Seven diameters
The elbow is available for tubes of 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/8, 1-3/8 and 1-5/8 in outside diameter. The male end has the outside diameter of the tube of the same size and fits into a female fitting of that size.
Choosing the right elbow
- Long radius street: large diameters, fitting into fitting, flow comes first.
- Short radius street: 3/8 to 1-1/8 in, when space comes first.
- Long radius C × C: two female ends, 1/4 to 2-5/8 in.
Before brazing, clean the surfaces, push the tube all the way into the socket and run a light flow of dry nitrogen. This work is reserved for a qualified refrigeration technician.
Supplied and installed by AirGreen in Greater Montréal
Our refrigeration technicians install refrigerant piping in Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and the North Shore. RBQ licence 5645-9605-01. For availability or a quote, call us at 514 316-2973 or email sales@airgreen.ca with the diameter and the quantity.
For larger suction lines
On a suction line every turn slows the gas; a long radius keeps that loss down.
- Suction lines of central heat pumps and commercial systems
- Assemblies where the elbow fits straight into a tee, a coupling or another elbow
- Risers and direction changes in a mechanical room
- 1-3/8 and 1-5/8 in commercial refrigeration circuits

What to know before installing
- The male end has the outside diameter of the tube of the chosen size.
- Take the suction line size from the equipment manual or the piping calculation.
- Clean the inside of the female end and the outside of the male end before brazing.
- Braze with a light flow of dry nitrogen; this work is reserved for a qualified technician.

Frequently asked questions
Why a long radius on a suction line?
The suction line carries low-pressure gas. A wider bend slows it less than a tight turn, which keeps pressure drop down.
What does FTG × C mean?
FTG is the male end, which fits into another fitting; C is the female end, which takes the tube.
Do you have smaller sizes?
This elbow starts at 1/2 in. For 3/8 in, use the short-radius street elbow or the long-radius C × C elbow, offered from 1/4 in.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our technicians run refrigerant piping for central heat pumps and commercial systems in Greater Montréal.
