InstallationBy an electrical contractor

This breaker for a residential electrical panel comes in three models: single-pole 15 A, single-pole 20 A and twin. It protects an appliance’s circuit against overcurrent and is installed in the home’s electrical panel.

The right breaker for the right circuit

When a heating or cooling appliance is installed, a circuit often has to be added to the panel. The single-pole models protect 120 V circuits: condensate pump, air exchanger, fan or other auxiliary appliance. Most heat pumps, on the other hand, run on 240 V and need a double-pole breaker, whose rating is shown on the appliance’s nameplate.

Single-pole or twin

  • Single-pole 15 A or 20 A: one 120 V circuit; the rating matches the appliance and the wire.
  • Twin: two single-pole circuits in the space of one breaker, useful when the panel is short on space and accepts this type.

Compatible with your panel

A breaker must be of a type recognized for the panel it goes into. The panel label lists the accepted types and, for twin models, the permitted positions. Send us a photo of the label: we confirm compatibility before ordering. Electrical connection is reserved for an electrical contractor. AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, subcategory 16 (electricity), and is a member of the CMEQ.

01 · What it is for

Protecting each unit’s circuit

Every piece of equipment wired to the panel has its own breaker, chosen from its electrical ratings and the panel.

  • 120 V circuits for auxiliary equipment: condensate pump, air exchanger, fan
  • Adding a circuit when installing equipment
  • Replacing a faulty breaker
  • Full panel: the twin fits two circuits in one space, where the panel allows it

04 · Before installing

What to know before installing

  • The panel label lists the breaker types it accepts: check it before ordering.
  • The rating is set from the equipment nameplate and the wire gauge.
  • A heat pump fed at 240 V needs a two-pole breaker, not a single-pole one.
  • Not every panel accepts twin breakers, nor in every position.
  • Work inside an electrical panel is reserved for an electrical contractor.

Frequently asked questions

Will this breaker fit my panel?

That depends on the panel’s make and model: each panel only accepts the breaker types listed on its label. Send us a photo of the label and we confirm before ordering.

Which breaker for my heat pump?

Most heat pumps are fed at 240 V and need a two-pole breaker, with the rating shown on the unit’s nameplate. Single-pole models are for 120 V circuits.

What is a twin breaker?

Two single-pole breakers combined in the size of one, to fit two circuits in one panel space, where the panel allows it.

Can you install it?

Yes. AirGreen holds RBQ subclass 16 (electrical): our technicians add or replace the breaker when they install your equipment.
