Heat pumpBehind a heat pump, it produces less
It evaporates water from a pad using the heat of the air coming off the furnace. A heat pump blows cooler air, so it evaporates less. With a heat pump, talk to our estimator: depending on the manufacturer, we connect it to hot water or suggest a steam model instead.

Clean Comfort HE17A2: 17 gal/day of bypass humidification with automatic digital control
The HE17A2 is a bypass humidifier mounted on the furnace. It produces 17 gal/day. Clean Comfort gives no area in sq ft, only a volume of 20,000 cu ft. By our estimate, it suits about 2,000 sq ft in an average-construction home.
The A makes the difference
Same 2020 generation and same pad as the HE17M2, but a different control. A means automatic control: it ships with the DV6062A1001 HumidiPRO digital control instead of a manual one. If you prefer a digital control to a manual setting, this is the version to pick. The valve draws 0.75 A at 24 V.
What to plan for
- A 9¾ × 12⅝ in. opening in the plenum and a 6 in. bypass duct.
- A water line and a drain near the furnace.
- A replaceable pad: HE26E1004, treated with Agion antimicrobial, or CCF-A35.
Like any evaporative humidifier, it draws its output from the furnace's heat. Behind a heat pump the air is cooler and it produces less.
