Is it the right size for your home?

It puts 17 gallons of water a day into the air, enough to humidify about 2,000 sq ft (our estimate). Pick your home's living area.

It's the right size.

For a 900 to 1,500 sq ft house, it's within its range. It will run at part load on ordinary days and keep a reserve for the coldest days.

AirGreen estimate. Johnson Controls (Source 1) publishes no area for this model. For an average-construction home, we count 120 sq ft per gallon a day, the ratio in AprilAire's and Lennox's tables. Older or leaky house: go one size up; our estimator confirms it on site.

17 galWhat it produces per day, at full output

About 64 litres of water turned into humidity in 24 hours. The control runs it to match the humidity you set: it rarely runs flat out, except in very cold weather.

Heat pumpBehind a heat pump, it produces less

It evaporates water from a pad using the heat of the air coming off the furnace. A heat pump blows cooler air, so it evaporates less. With a heat pump, talk to our estimator: depending on the manufacturer, we connect it to hot water or suggest a steam model instead.

0 drainIt evaporates all its water

Johnson Controls says it uses 100% of the water it takes in and holds less than 8 oz: no drain to connect.

60%Behind a heat pump

According to the manufacturer, with a heat pump it evaporates about 60% of its rated capacity.

A 10 × 12¾ in. opening and a 6 in. round bypass duct.

Source 1 BP4000MT: Johnson Controls' drainless bypass humidifier

The BP4000MT mounts on the plenum of a forced-air furnace, with a bypass duct. It puts out 17 gal/day and suits about 2,000 sq ft by our estimate. Source 1 is the OEM parts brand of Johnson Controls (York, Luxaire, Coleman).

No drain to connect

According to Johnson Controls, the BP4000MT uses 100% of the water it takes in and holds less than 8 oz in the unit. It's the model to install when there's no drain near the furnace. It has the same cabinet and the same 10 × 12¾ in. opening as the BP6000MT, which does need a drain. The M in MT means it ships with a manual humidistat.

What to know

It needs a 6 in. round bypass duct, a water supply and a 24 V supply for the valve (0.5 A), but no drain. Behind a heat pump, the manufacturer says it evaporates about 60% of its rated capacity. The manufacturer publishes no replacement interval for the S1-HUPAD45 water panel; it gets changed when it's scaled.

Installing it with AirGreen

Every installation starts with a visit: our estimator looks at the furnace, the electrical panel, the water line and the space around the plenum, then gives you a quote for the BP4000MT installed. We serve Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore. Phone: 514 316-2973.
