Quick facts
The Armacell Armaflex insulation sheet measures 36 × 48 in and cuts with a knife. It is used to insulate everything tube insulation cannot follow: fittings, service valves, filter driers, large-diameter pipes and cold flat surfaces.
Closing the gaps in a cold line's insulation
On a refrigerant line, heat gain and condensation often show up in the same places: the valve left bare, the uncovered fitting, the elbow where the insulation has slipped. A piece cut from the sheet, glued and overlapping the insulation on the adjacent tubes, closes up these weak spots. The sheet is also used to insulate a pan, a housing or a section of duct.
Five thicknesses
- 1/4 in and 3/8 in: small pieces and fittings next to tubes insulated with 3/8 in.
- 1/2 in and 3/4 in: colder lines and damp locations.
- 1 in: very cold or exposed surfaces.
Cutting and gluing cleanly
Measure the piece, trace the pattern on the sheet and cut in a single stroke with a sharp knife. Glue the edges with Armaflex 520 adhesive without stretching the foam. Outdoors, the foam must be protected from the sun with a suitable coating.

What to know before installing
- Measure the part, trace the pattern on the sheet and cut with a sharp knife.
- Glue the seams with Armaflex 520 adhesive without stretching the foam.
- Overlap the cut piece onto the insulation of the adjoining tubes to avoid thermal bridges.
- Outdoors, protect the foam from sunlight with a suitable finish.

Frequently asked questions
Which thickness should I choose?
Use at least the thickness of the insulation on the adjoining tubes. On a very cold surface or in a humid space, a thicker sheet limits condensation.
How do I insulate a valve or fitting?
Cut a piece that wraps the valve, glue the edges with Armaflex 520 adhesive and overlap it onto the tube insulation on each side.
How do I get the most out of a sheet?
Trace every piece on the sheet before cutting, starting with the largest. One 36 × 48 in sheet covers several fittings and valves on the same installation.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our technicians insulate fittings and special parts on their installations across Greater Montréal.
