Length95 to 175 ft depending on size

Armaflex roll insulation from Armacell is a continuous, coiled insulating tube with a 3/8 in wall. It covers a long refrigerant line in a single piece, where you would otherwise have to line up dozens of 6 ft lengths and glue every joint.

One piece from the outdoor unit to the air handler

The roll is made for long runs: a central heat pump whose air handler is in the basement, a line that goes up to the attic or a service riser over several floors. Fewer joints means less glue, less installation time and fewer places where humid air can reach the cold copper and cause condensation.

Six diameters, a length suited to each

  • 1/4 in pipe: 175 ft roll
  • 3/8 in pipe: 155 ft roll
  • 1/2 in pipe: 140 ft roll
  • 5/8 in pipe: 125 ft roll
  • 3/4 in pipe: 110 ft roll
  • 7/8 in pipe: 95 ft roll

Before installing it

Unroll the insulation and cut it to the required length before sliding it onto the tube. Never stretch it to gain a few feet: it gets thinner and the ends eventually open up. Glue the ends with Armaflex 520 adhesive and keep the insulation away from the flame during brazing. For a 1/2 or 3/4 in wall, choose Armaflex insulation in 6 ft tubes instead.

01 · What it is for

Fewer joints on long runs

One continuous tube replaces some twenty 6 ft lengths butted together.

  • Long refrigerant runs between the outdoor unit and an air handler in the basement or attic
  • Soft copper tubing unrolled from a coil
  • Lines running inside a wall or ceiling, where every joint would be hard to reach
  • Small sizes for wall-mount and multi-zone heat pumps
Continuous tubeFewer joints to glue, so fewer places where humid air can get in.
3/8 in wallThe same thickness across every coil size offered.
Length to match175 ft for 1/4 in tube down to 95 ft for 7/8 in tube.

04 · Before installing

What to know before installing

  • Unroll and cut the insulation to length before sliding it over the tube.
  • Do not stretch it to gain length: it thins out and insulates less.
  • Glue every end and joint with Armaflex 520 adhesive.
  • Keep the insulation away from the flame while brazing.

Frequently asked questions

Why a coil instead of 6 ft lengths?

On a long run, the coil saves a string of butt joints. Fewer joints means less glue, less time and fewer weak spots.

Is the coil available with a thicker wall?

This product comes in a 3/8 in wall only. For a 1/2 or 3/4 in wall, use the 6 ft Armaflex tubes.

Which size do I need?

The size of the copper tube being insulated. A 3/8 × 5/8 in line set needs one 3/8 in coil and one 5/8 in coil.

Can you install it?

Yes. Our technicians insulate the lines on every heat pump installation in Greater Montréal.
