Quick facts
The condensate pump for wall-mounted heat pumps removes the water produced by the indoor unit when the drain cannot run down to the outside by gravity. It is installed near the indoor unit and lifts the water to a discharge point: an outdoor outlet or a plumbing drain.
Installing the indoor unit on the right wall
A condensate drain normally works by gravity: it goes through the exterior wall and runs down to the outlet. That is simple when the unit is on an exterior wall. But the best spot to heat and cool a room is not always there. Interior wall, basement, a room with no wall facing outside: the pump lets you put the unit where it does the most good.
Before choosing a pump
- Send us the model and capacity of your indoor unit: we confirm compatibility.
- Plan for an approved discharge point.
- The pump needs a power supply, connected during installation.
Simple maintenance
Over time, dust and algae build up in the pump’s reservoir and tubing. Cleaning it during the heat pump’s annual maintenance keeps it from clogging. When the pump has an overflow safety switch, we wire it to shut the unit off before it overflows.

When the drain cannot run downhill
Most drains work by gravity. When that is not possible, a pump lifts the water.
- Indoor unit on an interior wall, away from an outside wall
- Basement installation, below outdoor grade
- Discharge to a plumbing drain located higher or farther away
- Replacing a failed condensate pump

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a condensate pump?
Only if water cannot drain by gravity to the outside or to a drain: unit on an interior wall, in a basement, or a discharge point that sits higher.
Will it work with my heat pump?
Send us your indoor unit’s model and capacity and we confirm the pump suits it before ordering.
What happens if the pump stops?
Water builds up in the unit and can overflow. We wire the overflow safety provided by the pump maker, when the pump has one, to shut the unit off before water damage.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our technicians install and connect the pump when they install your heat pump, everywhere in Greater Montréal.
