01 · Your room

Is it the right size for this room?

Friedrich doesn't publish a room size for this unit. From its 7,200 BTU/h of cooling, we estimate ≈ 105 to 170 sq ft. Choose your room's area.

It's the right size.

For a 130 to 175 sq ft room, this is the range we estimate for this unit: 7,200 BTU/h of cooling, 6,000 BTU/h of heat-pump heating and a heater of up to 3,450 W when the cold calls for it.

AirGreen estimate: Friedrich publishes no room size, so we apply the application ranges Trane publishes for its PTACs of the same cooling capacity. Our estimator confirms the exact area on site.

Typical 138 sq ft room with one exterior wall, in Montréal: 982 kWh of heat per winter (Environment Canada 1991–2020 climate normals). The heat pump is counted only at 8 °C and warmer, where Friedrich rates its output; below that, the heater, at the price of a baseboard. If it keeps heating in colder weather, the bill goes down.

≈ $114 for the year, before tax. Winter is 89% of it. If your home stays in the first tier of Rate D in summer (7.065 ¢/kWh), cooling drops to $7.83.

03 · Good to know

What you should know about this one

Published, verifiable facts, not brochure claims.

7,200What it really delivers in cooling

The name says 7,000 BTU: that's the unit's size class. Friedrich publishes 7,200 BTU/h at 230 V, a little more than its size class, and 7,000 at 208 V, the supply in many buildings.

3,450 WThe heater that takes over

The "3" in PDH07K3SG sets the heater at 3.5 kW: 3,450 W and 11,700 BTU/h at 230 V, 2,821 W at 208 V, on a 6-20P plug and a 20 A circuit. It heats when the heat pump can no longer keep up.

3.6The COP published at 8 °C

Friedrich publishes a heat-pump COP of 3.6: 6,000 BTU/h of heat at 230 V. Each kWh you pay for gives back 3.6 in heat, against 1 for the heater or a baseboard.

5,000What it still heats at 3 °C outside

At 37 °F (3 °C) outside, Friedrich still publishes 5,000 BTU/h of heat-pump heating for this model, against 6,000 at 47 °F (8 °C). Output drops with the cold, but the heat pump keeps working.

−1 °CWhen the heat pump steps aside

Friedrich stops the compressor when the outdoor coil stays below 30 °F (−1 °C) for more than 2 minutes: the heater then works alone. The heat pump restarts when the coil warms back to 45 °F (7 °C).

1.7Pints of water it removes per hour

The dehumidification Friedrich publishes in cooling mode: 1.7 pints per hour. It's what keeps a room comfortable in summer without it turning clammy.

75 cfmFresh air through the vent door

The vent door brings in up to 75 cfm of outside air, according to Friedrich. Close it to keep all the heat or the cool air in the room.

6-20PThe outlet it needs

This model plugs into a NEMA 6-20P outlet on a dedicated 20 A circuit. In a replacement, we first check the outlet and breaker already in place.

Replacement

It fits a standard PTAC sleeve, with no baffle kit

Friedrich designs this PTAC for the standard 42 × 16 in sleeve, without the added cost of a baffle kit. Our estimator checks the sleeve and the grille in place before ordering.
