TypePipe joint sealant
Sizes1.3 oz tube, 4 oz bottle
VersionsBlue, Gold (with Teflon®)

Leak Lock is the thread sealant from Highside Chemicals. It seals the threads and flanges of air conditioning and refrigeration circuits exposed to refrigerants, oils, gases, air and water, and also works as a gasket compound. Once set, it stays flexible, adheres to surfaces and fills voids.

A sealant that holds from full vacuum to 10,000 psi

Highside Chemicals rates it for a range from full vacuum to 10,000 psi, from -93 °C to 204 °C. It applies to metals (aluminum, copper, steel, stainless steel, galvanized) and to plastics such as PVC, CPVC and ABS. It also helps keep nuts and fittings from loosening under vibration.

Blue or Gold

  • Leak Lock Blue: the original formula, in a 1.3 oz tube or a 4 oz bottle with brush.
  • Leak Lock Gold: contains Teflon® and reduces galling on stainless steel threads, in a 1.3 oz tube.

Directions for use

Clean the threads with acetone, apply the sealant with a brush or spatula and let it set for about 20 minutes before assembling. Time before putting the system into service ranges from 1 to 2 hours for small diameters to the next day for 2 to 4 in pipe, depending on temperature. The manufacturer does not recommend it with alcohols. The safety data sheet is in the Documents section of this page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Leak Lock Blue and Leak Lock Gold?

Both seal the same fluids over the same pressure and temperature range. Gold contains Teflon® and reduces galling on stainless steel threads.

Can I use it on a flare fitting?

Highside presents it as a sealant for threaded and flanged joints and as a gasket compound. For a flare fitting, follow the equipment maker’s instructions: many call for a clean flare and refrigeration oil rather than a sealant.

How long before pressurizing?

Let it tack about 20 minutes before assembly. Full set takes 1 to 2 hours on small pipe and up to overnight on 2 to 4 in pipe, depending on temperature.

Where is the safety data sheet?

In the Documents section of this page, in French and English, straight from Highside Chemicals.
