Diagnosis and restart of an old wall system
At AirGreen , we regularly receive calls for Fujitsu units that have been installed for over 15 years. This was the case here, in a condo in Ville Mont-Royal , where a customer contacted us after noticing that their wall-mounted air conditioner was no longer cooling efficiently. The unit, installed above a large patio door, still appeared to be functional, but the air blown was no longer cold and an irregular clicking noise could be heard.
Inspection and initial findings
Upon our arrival, our technician first confirmed that the model in place belonged to an older generation of Fujitsu wall-mounted units , very common in the 2000s. These units are known for their durability, but after two decades of service, several components can be affected:

Dust accumulation on the evaporator and fins.

Minor refrigerant leak on copper fittings.

Electronic board out of adjustment or worn relay.
A thermal imaging camera inspection revealed that the blowing temperature did not drop below 20°C — a clear sign of a lack of refrigerant.
Technical diagnosis
After performing a pressure test and checking the electrical connections, the technician identified two main sources of the problem:

A micro-leak at the suction line flare.

A dirty interior fan , significantly reducing airflow.
The age of the unit and the yellowing of the plastic indicated long service without complete maintenance.
Intervention and recommissioning
We have undertaken one-off repairs and extensive preventative maintenance :

Complete cleaning of the evaporator with dry steam.

Replacing the sealing tape on the fittings.

Recharge the system with R410A after leak testing.

Reset and calibration of the electronic card.
Once the system was restarted, the air outlet temperature dropped back to 9.8°C , confirming optimal performance.
Results and recommendations
The customer immediately felt the difference: the unit was once again blowing cool, constant air, and the noise level had significantly decreased. However, we explained to him that, given the age of his Fujitsu air conditioner , it would be worth considering replacing it with a modern wall-mounted heat pump in the medium term, which is much more energy-efficient and compatible with Hydro-Québec subsidies.
