Service call for a GREE wall-mounted heat pump in Brossard

AirGreen intervention: emergency diagnosis and maintenance on residential balconies

In Brossard, a customer recently contacted AirGreen after noticing that their GREE wall-mounted heat pump was no longer cooling their condo effectively. The outdoor compressor, installed on a concrete balcony, was running continuously, but the indoor temperature remained stable at 26°C, even in cooling mode.
A classic situation at the end of winter, when HVAC systems resume continuous operation and reveal mechanical weaknesses accumulated during the cold season.

Initial observation: a clear lack of maintenance

Upon arriving at the site, our technician noticed two outdoor units lined up against the brick wall. The main unit had:

  • A buildup of dust and pollen on the evaporator fins.

  • Cracked pipe insulation , allowing moisture to pass through.

  • Abnormal vibrations noticeable upon switching on.

A quick reading of the operating parameters confirmed compressor overheating and reduced airflow , two typical signs of a clogged coil and a blocked fan.

Step 1: Complete technical diagnosis

At AirGreen, we begin each intervention with a precise protocol:

  1. Measurement of gas pressures (R410A in this case) → values 25% lower than the GREE standard.

  2. Inspection of the outdoor fan → accumulation of dirt on the blades, unbalancing the rotation.

  3. Electrical check → stable voltage, capacitor slightly weakened (6.8 µF measured for a nominal 8 µF part).

  4. Fast thermography → compressor reaching 78°C, well beyond the optimal range (50-60°C).

These data confirmed an overall loss of performance due to lack of maintenance and an aging component .

Step 2: In-depth maintenance and correction of anomalies

The technician undertook a series of targeted interventions:

  • Thoroughly clean the coil using a biodegradable cleaner designed for residential HVAC systems.

  • Disassembly and balancing of the fan to eliminate vibrations.

  • Replacement of the defective capacitor , original GREE certified part.

  • Renovation of the refrigeration pipe insulation with UV and moisture resistant sheath.

  • Calibrated refill of R410A gas up to 118 PSI, in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

All work was carried out directly on the balcony, with care taken to avoid any noise pollution or leaks during recharging.

Step 3: Performance testing and validation of results

Once the heat pump is back in service:

  • Indoor blowing temperature: 18.5°C after 7 minutes .

  • Stabilized pressure: 118 PSI .

  • Measured sound level: 38 dB at 1 meter , down 5 dB compared to the initial situation.

  • Power consumption: 640 W , a sign of restored energy efficiency.

The compressor returned to normal operating temperature, and the airflow became stable and uniform again.

AirGreen Expertise: Maintenance, Efficiency and Sustainability

This intervention illustrates the importance of regular maintenance of wall-mounted heat pumps .
Even a new installation can lose up to 30% of its efficiency in a year if the coils are not cleaned and the refrigerant connections are not inspected.

At AirGreen , we focus on:

  • Complete seasonal inspections (spring and fall).

  • Preventive electrical checks .

  • Low pressure cleaning without damaging the fins.

  • Checking the refrigerant level and compressor performance.

Thanks to this methodical approach, the GREE heat pump in Brossard is now operating at its full capacity, providing stable comfort and controlled consumption.

AirGreen Tips for Urban Condominiums and Balconies

Balcony installations present special challenges:

  • Less air circulation : a minimum of 30 cm at the rear and 60 cm at the front of the unit must be clear.

  • Risk of stagnant moisture : always check the slope of the balcony to avoid infiltration towards the electrical connections.

  • Vibrations amplified by the slab : use anti-vibration mounts like those installed by AirGreen (photo above).

These details make all the difference between a noisy system and a high-performance, quiet system.
