Service call for a Midea wall-mounted heat pump in Sainte-Thérèse

Accurate diagnosis thanks to infrared measuring technology

During a service call in Sainte-Thérèse , our AirGreen team responded to a residential customer reporting a loss of performance from their Midea wall-mounted heat pump . According to the customer, the blown air temperature seemed less cold than usual, making summer days uncomfortable.

Our mission: to quickly identify the cause of the problem, restore optimal performance of the HVAC system and ensure lasting home comfort.

Initial inspection: abnormal blowing temperature

Using a professional infrared thermometer , our technicians immediately measured the air temperature at the outlet of the indoor unit. The reading showed 14.7°C , whereas for a wall-mounted heat pump in good condition, the temperature should be around 7 to 9°C in air conditioning mode.

This data confirmed an inefficiency of the refrigeration cycle , directing our diagnosis towards a possible leak of R410A refrigerant or a partial obstruction of the air flow .

Stages of diagnosis

  1. Complete visual inspection of the indoor unit and outdoor condenser;

  2. Checking refrigerant pressure using calibrated electronic pressure gauges;

  3. Control of air flow through filters and coils;

  4. Examination of the condensate drain and temperature sensor.

The results revealed significant fouling of the indoor evaporator combined with a refrigerant charge slightly below the standard . Both factors contributed to reduced cooling capacity and increased energy consumption.

Technical intervention: cleaning and recharging the system

Our team undertook a complete overhaul of the refrigeration circuit :

  • Disassembly of the front casing of the indoor unit for a thorough cleaning of the evaporator with a non-corrosive product;

  • Rinse and dry the condensate tray thoroughly to avoid unpleasant odors and blockage of the drain;

  • Cleaning the outdoor condenser , whose fins were partially blocked by dust and pollen;

  • Checking the circuit's tightness with an electronic leak detector ;

  • Recharging the system with the exact amount of R410A according to Midea specifications;

  • Verification of operating pressures and temperatures under actual load.

Final results and tests

After restarting, a new infrared measurement showed a blown air temperature of 6.8°C , indicating restored performance. The air flow , previously slowed down, had become smooth and stable again.

The customer immediately noticed the difference: cooler air, a rapidly decreasing interior temperature, and quiet operation. We also took the time to explain some good maintenance practices :

  • Clean filters every 3 to 4 weeks during the warm season;

  • Avoid obstructing the airflow around the outdoor unit;

  • Schedule annual preventative maintenance to maintain energy performance and extend appliance life.
