Repair of a Daikin wall-mounted air conditioner in Côte-des-Neiges

A service call in a café in the heart of Côte-des-Neiges

At AirGreen , we were recently contacted by a café owner in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood whose Daikin wall-mounted air conditioner was no longer working properly. In the middle of August, with a packed room and temperatures exceeding 30°C, customer comfort was seriously compromised. Our team quickly scheduled an emergency HVAC intervention to diagnose and repair the problem on-site.

Diagnosis: Blocked airflow and faulty sensor

Upon arrival, our technician noticed that the indoor wall unit—installed near the ceiling, above a curtain separating the kitchen from the dining room—was displaying a flashing light and was no longer producing cold air.
After removing the facade, we carried out several checks:

  • Air filters completely clogged with dust and grease from the surroundings (kitchen environment).

  • Evaporator coil covered with a greasy film reducing heat exchange.

  • Indoor temperature sensor (thermistor) showing inconsistent reading, causing compressor to automatically shut off.

To confirm the diagnosis, we measured the refrigeration pressures and discharge temperature: everything indicated a sensor malfunction rather than a lack of refrigerant.

Intervention: deep cleaning and sensor replacement

The work took place in three stages:

  1. Complete cleaning of the indoor unit :

    • Remove and wash the filters in warm soapy water.

    • Application of a biodegradable product to the evaporator coil.

    • Steam rinse to remove greasy residue.

  2. Replacing the temperature sensor :

    • Installation of an original Daikin sensor compatible with the FTXS series model.

    • Checking the ohmic signal and calibrating via the electronic card.

  3. Full system test :

    • Restart the compressor and measure the delta T between suction and discharge.

    • Static pressure and air flow control at the outlet grille.

Result: a stable blowing temperature at 17°C and silent operation, proof of restored efficiency.

AirGreen Expertise: recommended preventive maintenance

We took advantage of this visit to recommend quarterly preventative maintenance , which is particularly essential in catering businesses where dust and cooking fumes accumulate quickly.
Our recommendations to the owner:

  • Clean the filters every two weeks .

  • Have the coil professionally cleaned twice a year.

  • Avoid blocking the airflow with curtains or hanging objects (as was the case here).

Thanks to this quick repair, the client was able to reopen the air-conditioned room the same day, thus avoiding loss of revenue and customer dissatisfaction.
