A service call in the heat of summer
At AirGreen , our HVAC repair teams respond weekly to residential areas of Laval , including Sainte-Dorothée , for urgent calls related to broken wall-mounted air conditioners . This summer, we were contacted by a homeowner whose Fujitsu wall-mounted air conditioner was no longer producing cold air, even though the outside temperature exceeded 30°C. The outdoor unit, installed high on a red brick wall, appeared to be working, but the air blown inside remained lukewarm.
On-site diagnosis: an electrical anomaly and forgotten maintenance
Upon our arrival, our technician performed a complete diagnosis of the system.
Some initial observations:
-
The Fujitsu wall-mounted air conditioner , from the Halcyon series, had been installed for about 6 years.
-
The outdoor unit was mounted on sturdy wall brackets, but close to a tree whose branches were beginning to obstruct airflow.
-
The internal filter had not been cleaned for several seasons, which reduced airflow and caused the compressor to overheat .
After some checks using our multimeter and a differential pressure gauge, we detected:
-
Fluctuating voltage on the control board.
-
A drop in R-410A refrigerant pressure , suggesting a small leak at a flare fitting.
Intervention: complete repair and performance optimization
The intervention involved several methodical stages:
-
Deep cleaning of the indoor unit coil and blower turbine.
-
Clearing the outside area : trimming foliage and clearing airflow around the condenser.
-
Flare fitting repair : disassembly, clean cutting of the copper pipe, installation of a new flare and tightening to the precise torque recommended by Fujitsu.
-
Leak test under nitrogen for 20 minutes to confirm no leaks.
-
Recharge the R-410A refrigerant circuit according to the manufacturer's specifications.
-
Replacement of the main board protection fuse , damaged by voltage fluctuations.
Once the work was completed, the air conditioner resumed normal operation with an indoor/outdoor temperature difference of 12°C in less than 10 minutes—a clear sign of restored efficiency.
Maintenance tips to prevent future breakdowns
We took the time to explain to the client some essential best practices:
-
Clean the internal filters every 4 to 6 weeks during the summer season.
-
Keep a clear area of at least 60 cm around the outdoor unit.
-
Have an annual inspection performed by an AirGreen certified technician to prevent refrigerant leaks and electrical anomalies.
Thanks to these measures, the lifespan of the device can exceed 12 to 15 years, while maintaining optimal energy performance.
