When a Gree wall-mounted air conditioner stops cooling in the middle of a hot day in Sainte-Julie
At AirGreen , we regularly receive service calls during periods of intense heat, especially when wall-mounted air conditioners are put under strain. This is exactly what happened to a customer in Sainte-Julie , on the South Shore of Montreal , whose Gree wall-mounted air conditioner had suddenly stopped supplying cold air.
The unit, installed above an interior door on the ground floor, showed clear signs of airflow blockage : the vanes remained open, but no air was being blown. In addition, a slight vibrating noise was emanating from the top panel.
Diagnosis: An electronic card problem and deferred maintenance
Upon arrival, we performed a complete diagnostic of the Gree 12,000 BTU wall-mounted system , powered by R-32 refrigerant . After removing the faceplate and inspecting the components, we found:
-
significant fouling of the evaporator coil (accumulated dust and grease);
-
a partially blocked drain , which caused slight seepage;
-
and most importantly, a faulty interior control board , unable to activate the fan motor.
This type of breakdown is common when annual maintenance is not carried out: dust and humidity create short circuits on sensitive electronic components.
Intervention: complete repair and refurbishment of the system
We first carefully disassembled the front panel to access the electronic board . This was tested using our professional multimeter, confirming the failure of the main relay. We then:
-
Replaced the original Gree electronic card , supplied by our AirGreen warehouse in Laval.
-
Deep cleaned the coil and tangential fan with a specialized biodegradable product.
-
Unblocked and flushed the drain line with compressed air.
-
Checked the operating current and pressure of the refrigeration circuit to ensure that no R-32 leaks were present.
Once the repair was complete, the air conditioner was restarted: the airflow was optimal, and the temperature dropped from 27°C to 22°C in less than 20 minutes.
Result: comfort restored and preventive maintenance recommended
Our client from Sainte-Julie found immediate comfort . We took advantage of the intervention to recommend annual preventive maintenance , particularly before the summer season, in order to:
-
extend the life of your Gree wall-mounted air conditioner;
-
avoid costly electronic card failures;
-
maintain optimal energy consumption.
At AirGreen , we emphasize the importance of these regular maintenances — especially for wall-mounted units operating with R-32 , which is more sensitive to humidity and micro-leaks.
