Repair of a NAPOLEON wall-mounted air conditioner in Saint-Lambert

This was the case during this service call in Saint-Lambert , on the South Shore of Montreal , where a NAPOLEON wall-mounted air conditioner installed on a semi-enclosed balcony was causing a series of intermittent breakdowns.

Initial inspection and findings

Diagnosis: Lack of ventilation and accumulated dirt

After removing the front grille, we noticed a thick layer of dust and pollen on the fins of the exchanger. This accumulation, combined with the stagnant air from the balcony, caused a rapid rise in the temperature of the condenser .

We also noted a difference of more than 15°C between the expelled air and the ambient temperature — an abnormally high value which confirmed insufficient heat dissipation .

Steps of repair and optimization

To restore system performance, our technicians have:

  1. Deep cleaned the condenser using a biodegradable cleaner designed for aluminum coils.

  2. Checked the R-410A refrigerant charge for leaks.

  3. Adjusted the wall brackets to clear the unit from the wall and allow for better natural ventilation.

  4. Added a discreet air deflector to facilitate the evacuation of heat to the outside of the balcony.

This approach not only improves immediate performance, but also reduces the risk of premature compressor failure .

Result: comfort restored and efficiency regained

After recommissioning, thermal measurements showed a stabilization of the condenser temperature at 42°C , well below the critical limit.
The unit was able to operate continuously without any unwanted triggering, and the air blown inside returned to its normal coolness, around 17°C at the outlet of the indoor turbine .

The relieved customer finally found stable comfort without random restarts or temperature variations.

  • Maintain a minimum clearance of 30 cm around the condenser, even on a balcony.
