A service call for a wall-mounted air conditioner that was no longer cooling
At AirGreen , we were recently called to intervene in an apartment in Longueuil , on the South Shore of Montreal , for a TCL wall-mounted air conditioner that was no longer producing cold air. The customer had noticed for a few days that, despite the normal start-up of the indoor unit, the ambient temperature remained unchanged. This type of situation is common when certain internal components lose performance after several years of use.
Diagnosis: an anomaly in the refrigeration cycle
Our certified technician first performed a complete analysis of the HVAC system , including checking the operation of the fan, electronic board, and temperature sensor. He quickly noticed that the copper pipe coming out of the wall unit had evidence of refrigerant seepage near the wall connection. This often-overlooked detail indicated a micro-leak of R410A refrigerant , responsible for the loss of cooling capacity.
The absence of abnormal noise and the good condition of the evaporator fins confirmed that the leak came from the refrigeration line connection , and not from the indoor coil.
Repair steps: rigor and precision
Once the source of the problem was identified, our team proceeded according to HVAC industry standards:
-
Safe recovery of residual refrigerant to avoid loss to the environment;
-
Disconnecting and re-soldering the copper pipe to the wall fitting;
-
Nitrogen pressure test to check for leaks after repair;
-
Complete vacuum to eliminate all traces of moisture and residual gases;
-
Accurate R410A refill according to TCL manufacturer specifications;
-
Final performance test , including measurement of supply and return air temperature.
Result: restored yield and improved efficiency
As soon as it was turned back on, the TCL air conditioner regained its full power. The air was now coming out at more than 10°C cooler than the ambient temperature , a sign of a perfectly restored refrigeration cycle. The customer immediately felt an improvement in comfort in the room, especially on this hot and humid day typical of the South Shore.
Care tips to prevent future leaks
Our technicians took advantage of the intervention to remind the customer of the importance of professional annual maintenance , particularly for compact wall units. Regular inspection allows:
-
detect the beginnings of microleaks in time;
-
avoid overloading the compressor;
-
clean the condensate drain and internal filters;
-
extend the life of the TCL system.
