An urgent service call on the West Shore of Montreal
At AirGreen , we often receive calls during periods of extreme heat for Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pumps that suddenly stop working. This is exactly what happened in Pointe-Claire , in the West Island of Montreal, where a duplex owner contacted us about a Fujitsu Halcyon unit installed on the exterior brick wall of his building.
The customer noticed that the heat pump was no longer producing cooling, even though the indoor fan was running. In addition, an abnormal noise was being heard from the outdoor condenser mounted on a wall bracket above the balcony.
Diagnosis: Compressor blocked and airflow obstruction
Upon arrival on site, we carried out a complete inspection of the Fujitsu Halcyon system , which consists of a wall-mounted indoor module and a compact outdoor compressor mounted at a height of more than two meters. Several signs of failure were identified:
-
The outdoor fan was spinning slowly and erratically.
-
The compressor was no longer starting properly.
-
A buildup of dust and debris was partially blocking the condenser.
-
The refrigerant lines showed signs of wear and oxidation.
These clues pointed us towards a problem of compressor overheating , accentuated by a lack of ventilation and general fouling .
Repair steps performed
Our technicians proceeded methodically to restore the proper functioning of the system:
-
Complete disconnection of the power supply and checking of the supply voltages.
-
Removing the outer cover to access the fan and compressor.
-
Deep cleaning of the condenser , removing accumulated dust, pollen and debris.
-
Lubrication and realignment of the fan motor , responsible for the noise observed.
-
Testing the compressor using an ammeter and replacing the starting capacitor , a part often responsible for Fujitsu Halcyon starting failures.
-
Checking the R-410A refrigerant charge and adding a small amount after leak testing.
After reassembly, we carried out a complete performance test : the heat pump reached a blowing temperature of 8°C in less than 5 minutes, confirming the success of the repair.
Advice given to the owner
We explained to the client that this type of breakdown is common when outdoor condensers are installed in restricted areas (balconies, wall brackets) without regular cleaning. We recommended:
-
A complete annual AirGreen maintenance (interior and exterior).
-
Spring cleaning of the condenser with a soft brush and a low-pressure water jet.
-
Periodic check of air clearance around the unit (at least 30 cm on each side).
-
The possible installation of an anti-vibration mount to reduce operating noise.
These simple steps can extend the life of a Fujitsu heat pump by more than 5 additional years .
Result: performance restored and comfort restored
Once the heat pump was restarted, the difference was immediate:
-
The abnormal noise had completely disappeared.
-
The Fujitsu Halcyon compressor operated stably and quietly.
-
The client was able to regain consistent and efficient cooling throughout the main living area.
This intervention perfectly illustrates our approach: accurate diagnosis, rapid intervention and lasting solutions . At AirGreen, we believe that a well-done repair is often better than a premature replacement.
