A residential service call for a heat pump in a difficult-to-access location
In the lively Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood, a duplex owner contacted us about a performance issue with his Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump installed outside, under the second-floor balcony. The unit, although new, was no longer blowing cold air consistently and was emitting an unusual vibrating noise . Given the height and position of the compressor, access required specialized equipment and a rigorous work methodology.
Initial inspection: an accurate diagnosis despite restricted access
Upon our arrival, our AirGreen technician secured the area before setting up his mobile scaffold , allowing safe access to the unit fixed under the balcony structure.
A quick visual inspection revealed two concerning items:
-
Excessive vibration of the mounting plate due to a slightly loose bracket.
-
A poorly insulated refrigeration pipe , causing condensation and a slight dripping noise on the facade.
These anomalies, although apparently minor, could explain the observed performance fluctuations .
Step 1: Mechanical check and tightening
We started by tightening the mounting bolts and adding anti-vibration pads between the mounting plate and the brick wall.
This simple intervention immediately reduced the vibrations and stabilized the abnormal noise of the compressor.
Next, we re-insulated the refrigeration lines with a new UV-resistant sheath, improving the thermal protection of the system.
Step 2: Check the refrigerant charge
Using our digital pressure gauges , we measured the pressure of the refrigeration circuit.
The results indicated a charge slightly lower than the Fujitsu standard , typical of microleakage or natural loss after several seasons.
We therefore proceeded to:
-
A tracer gas leak test to confirm that no active leaks were present.
-
Accurate refill of R410A to the nearest gram, according to the manufacturer's specifications.
The heat pump was then restarted for a performance test in air conditioning mode , where the pressure and temperature quickly stabilized.
Step 3: Fan Calibration and Control Board Check
The customer had mentioned that the indoor unit sometimes produced an irregular blowing noise.
Our tests revealed that the control board was adjusting the fan speed incorrectly due to a slightly dirty temperature sensor .
After a thorough cleaning of the filters and sensor, operation became smooth again, with precise air speed control and a quieter start-up.
Step 4: General cleaning and condensate check
We finished the intervention with a thorough cleaning of the condenser outside, removing the debris and dust accumulated under the balcony.
A condensate drain test was also carried out: no blockages, but we recommended an annual preventive cleaning to the customer, especially in an urban environment where dust and pollen can accumulate quickly.
Results: silence restored and optimal performance
After our intervention, the Fujitsu heat pump returned to impeccable operation.
The vibrations have disappeared, the airflow is constant and the interior temperature stabilizes quickly.
The customer immediately noticed a reduction in exterior noise , better thermal comfort , and more stable energy consumption .
This intervention once again demonstrates AirGreen's precision and rigor in managing residential service calls, even in complex installation configurations.
