Repair of a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

A service call for a silent Fujitsu unit... but not cold

At AirGreen , we regularly receive calls from customers surprised to find that their wall-mounted heat pump is working, but no longer producing cold air. This is exactly what happened in a charming home in Montreal's Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood, where a homeowner contacted us after noticing that their Fujitsu system was no longer cooling despite the normal noise of the indoor fan.

On site, our technician quickly understood that the problem did not come from the indoor unit, but rather from a lack of R-410A refrigerant , often caused by a micro-leak on the copper lines connecting the outdoor unit to the wall unit.

Inspection and diagnosis: probable leak on the flare connection

The diagnosis began with a complete system check:

  • Testing the air flow at the turbine outlet;

  • Checking the blowing temperature;

  • Compressor and outdoor fan control;

  • Reading pressures with electronic pressure gauges.

Result: pressure too low for a standard 12,000 BTU Fujitsu system. This anomaly confirmed a lack of refrigerant gas , and therefore a leak somewhere in the circuit .

Using an electronic detector, we located a microleak on the flare connection of the liquid pipe , a common junction point where the metal can loosen with heat and cold cycles.

Repair: tightening, vacuuming and complete recharging of the system

Once the leak was located, we undertook a complete intervention :

  1. Disassembly of the outdoor unit trim to access the connection.

  2. Cleaning and polishing the flare to ensure a perfect seal.

  3. Application of refrigerant oil and precise tightening of the fitting.

  4. Complete vacuuming of the circuit for 25 minutes to eliminate moisture and air.

  5. Recharge with R-410A refrigerant according to Fujitsu specifications (electronic weighing).

  6. Performance test : Checking air outlet temperature and compressor current.

After these steps, the Fujitsu wall unit was again blowing air at 9°C , indicating optimal performance.

A typical residential environment, but a preventable cause

The apartment, located in a typical Rosemont duplex, was bright and well insulated, but the heat pump had been installed more than 5 years ago. The owner had never had the refrigerant connections checked since the initial installation.
This lack of preventative maintenance is often the cause of slow leaks: the metal expands and contracts over the seasons, and the pressure eventually releases at the connections.

We therefore recommended that the customer have their fittings inspected every two years and carry out a complete internal cleaning to extend the life of the appliance.

Results and customer satisfaction

Once the repair was completed, the Fujitsu heat pump resumed normal operation:

  • Room temperature stabilized at 22°C after only 15 minutes.

  • Low noise level, characteristic of the Fujitsu Halcyon series.

  • Electricity consumption has become stable again.

The customer immediately felt the difference and enjoyed renewed comfort, without excessive noise or damp smells.
