Repair of a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump in Sainte-Julie

A service call for a half-uninstalled unit

At AirGreen , we were recently called to Sainte-Julie , on the South Shore of Montreal, for an unusual situation: a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump whose indoor unit had been removed by a previous contractor, leaving the refrigeration pipes exposed and hanging from the facade. The client, concerned about seeing the copper pipes and electrical cables exposed in the middle of winter, contacted us to restore the system and verify the integrity of the installation.

Initial diagnosis: installation interrupted

Upon arrival, we observed a Fujitsu Halcyon outdoor unit securely attached to the bottom of the wall, but no indoor unit connected . Two empty wall brackets , insulated refrigerant pipes , and hanging electrical wiring confirmed that a job had been interrupted before completion. This type of situation is risky for several reasons:

  • Exposure of refrigerant lines to cold weather can lead to moisture infiltration.

  • The power wires can oxidize and compromise the compressor starting.

  • Recommissioning without a full inspection could cause major failure of the electronic board.

The technical stages of our intervention

1. Checking the refrigeration circuit

We began by testing the continuity of the copper lines connecting the outdoor compressor to the planned location of the indoor unit. No leaks were detected, but we had to purge the circuit to remove accumulated moisture. A deep vacuum was then performed for 45 minutes using a double-stage pump.

2. Cleaning and protecting connections

The open copper end caps were carefully cleaned and resealed with new airtight caps. We also replaced the 14/4 communication cable , which showed signs of oxidation at its ends.

3. Reinstalling the indoor unit

After consulting with the owner, we reinstalled a Fujitsu wall-mounted head compatible with the existing condenser. The indoor unit was mounted on its original brackets, the pipe routing adjusted, and the final connection soldered with copper-phosphorus.

A nitrogen leak test confirmed the system was leak-proof prior to recharging with R-410A refrigerant.

Performance testing and final calibration

Once the heat pump was powered back up, we ran a full performance test . The results were excellent:

  • Blown air temperature: 11°C in cooling mode .

  • Return air temperature: 22°C .

  • Delta-T (temperature difference): 11°C , in accordance with Fujitsu standards.

We also checked the communication between the electronic boards and adjusted the fan calibration for quiet and stable operation.

A repair that restores confidence

The owner, who had recently purchased the condo, was reassured to find that his Fujitsu system could be refurbished without a complete replacement. AirGreen's intervention allowed him to avoid unnecessary expense while ensuring optimal operation before the arrival of the hot weather.

This type of case demonstrates the importance of using a certified HVAC contractor : improper handling of refrigeration lines can ruin a unit still under warranty and generate high costs.

AirGreen Recommendations

To avoid the problems encountered here, we recommend:

  1. Never leave refrigerant pipes open for more than 24 hours.

  2. Protect electrical cables exposed to the weather with self-fusing tape.

  3. Have the refrigerant charge checked after any indoor unit disconnection.

  4. Schedule annual maintenance before each summer to maintain energy efficiency.

Our teams cover the entire South Shore , including Sainte-Julie, Brossard, Saint-Bruno and La Prairie , and also travel to Montreal, Laval and the North Shore for all types of HVAC work.
