In this project in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, our AirGreen team intervened to recommission a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump installed on the rear façade of a typical residential building in the area. The dense urban environment, brick masonry, and compact wall installation are configurations we frequently encounter in this neighbourhood—and which demand a precise, safe, and sustainable approach.
The existing system: Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump
This is a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump (mini-split) , from the Halcyon range, consistent with the Orion XLTH model, renowned for its performance in cold climates. The outdoor unit is mounted on wall brackets, with enclosed refrigerant lines and a dedicated electrical disconnect switch—a standard configuration, but one that requires rigorous maintenance to prevent efficiency losses.
Problem observed and symptoms
The client contacted us regarding a significant drop in performance and intermittent shutdowns. Visual and functional inspection revealed several indicators:
-
Accumulation of dirt and debris around the outdoor heat exchanger, limiting airflow.
-
Traces of superficial corrosion on the chassis and screws, typical of an installation exposed to urban weather conditions.
-
Disconnector and wiring are functional, but require a complete check of the connections.
-
Stable wall mount , however slightly misaligned, which may transmit vibrations.
AirGreen Diagnostic
Our diagnosis took place in several stages:
-
Reading of operating parameters (pressures, temperatures, defrost cycles).
-
Electrical inspection of the circuit breaker and disconnector to rule out any voltage drop.
-
Control of airflow and condition of the heat exchanger.
-
Check the unit's fixings and alignment to prevent premature wear.
The verdict: advanced fouling of the outdoor unit combined with slight misalignment , resulting in reduced efficiency and occasional safety shutdowns.
Repair work carried out
We carried out a complete restoration, including:
-
Professional cleaning of the outdoor heat exchanger (fins, fan, casing).
-
Recentering and securing the wall mount to reduce vibrations.
-
Tightening and protection of electrical connections .
-
Complete functional test in heating and air conditioning.
Each intervention was carried out in compliance with the standards of the manufacturer Fujitsu and the best HVAC practices for the urban environment of Montreal.
Results obtained
After repair, the Fujitsu Halcyon heat pump has regained:
-
Optimal performance and smooth airflow.
-
Stable cycles , without unexpected stops.
-
A reduced noise level , which is appreciated in dense residential areas.
-
Renewed customer confidence , with restored comfort in both summer and winter.
