On some condo buildings in Greater Montreal, the outdoor unit of a wall-mounted heat pump is installed directly on the balcony. It's convenient… but it adds very specific challenges: limited space, sometimes restricted airflow, vibrations transmitted to the concrete slab, and increased exposure to dust and pollen. The context: an outdoor unit on a balcony, in a condominium setting
Visually, the installation is typical of recent condos:

The reported problem: unstable comfort and irregular operation
The client contacted us because the system:

seemed to cycle more often (frequent stops/restarts);

sometimes produced an abnormal noise (humming/vibration) noticeable on the balcony.
In a condo, these kinds of symptoms can quickly become frustrating: you feel the discomfort faster, and the noise spreads easily through the structure.

1) Complete visual inspection (installation + mechanical condition)
We began by confirming:

fixing and passing of the connections (risk of vibration transmitted to the wall).
2) Electrical and control tests
Next, we checked:

the behavior at start-up and during operation (engine/fan noises, speed variation, etc.).
3) Verification of pressures, temperatures and operating stability
Finally, we approved:

the consistency of supply and return air temperatures;

stability in air conditioning and maintenance mode;

typical signs of reduced efficiency (fouled heat exchanger, disturbed airflow, or refrigerant charge to be optimized).
The repair: a complete overhaul, not a “patch solution”
In this case in Chomedey, the solution was not a single isolated action, but a series of interventions specific to the outdoor units on balconies.
1) Technical cleaning of the outdoor heat exchanger
A slightly dirty heat exchanger can be enough to reduce efficiency, especially when the unit is installed in a space where air circulates less freely.
We have carried out:

a complete and safe cleaning of the external battery;

a reshaping of slightly obstructed end areas (if necessary);
-
a check of the fan and its rotation (noise, play, balance).
2) Vibration correction and reduction (acoustic comfort)
On a balcony slab, a small vibration quickly becomes "big" in perception.
We have :

stabilized the foundation of the unit;

added/optimized anti-vibration elements adapted to the installation;
-
secured certain potential contact points (connections/cables) to prevent them from resonating.
3) Performance verification and optimization
After mechanical repairs and cleaning, we restarted the system and validated it:

the stability of the cycles;

temperature constancy;
-
general behavior under load.
The objective: to restore smooth operation, without over-recycling, and a performance that corresponds to what a Fujitsu system is supposed to deliver.
Result: restored comfort, reduced noise, restored confidence
After the procedure:

The cooling system has become stable and efficient again;

the system no longer “searches” by starting/stopping too often;
-
the noise and vibrations on the balcony were significantly reduced ;
