The client, a rental property owner, reported that his Gree wall-mounted heat pump was no longer working in heating mode. Installation context

The Gree brand outdoor unit, an 18,000 BTU wall-mounted model, powered two wall-mounted indoor heads located in separate housings.
The system, installed about seven years ago, had not been maintained for three seasons. The unit was mounted on galvanized wall brackets , but was directly exposed to wind, frost, and rain—conditions that promote corrosion and water infiltration into the electrical box.

Diagnosis: An inactive compressor caused by a card failure

Once on site, our technician carried out the following steps:

  • Checking the supply voltage : correct at 240 V.

  • Indoor-outdoor communication signal test : unstable.

  • Compressor inspection : no attempt to start despite the signal from the remote control.

Upon opening the control box, we found that the main board showed signs of burn-in near the compressor start relay. This defect is typical of Gree wall-mounted heat pumps exposed to repeated freeze-thaw cycles without additional protection.

Steps of repair

Our team carried out a complete and certified repair , step by step:

  1. Disconnect the power supply and safely remove the top cover.

  2. Remove the faulty control board and inspect the connections.

  3. Complete cleaning of the electrical compartment to remove soot and deposits.

  4. Installation of a new original Gree electronic card , calibrated and tested according to the exact model of the heat pump.

  5. Sealing the connectors with a dielectric coating to prevent future infiltration.

  6. Checking the compressor and the outdoor fan , both functional after powering up.

After restarting, the compressor restarted without delay , and the unit began blowing steady warm air inside.

Cleaning and preventive maintenance

Before concluding the intervention, we carried out a complete cleaning of the outdoor coil using a low-pressure jet and a biodegradable cleaner.
We also tightened the wall brackets , which had become slightly loose from vibrations accumulated over the years.
Finally, a performance test confirmed:

  • A temperature delta of 13°C between the inlet and outlet air;

  • Pressures in accordance with Gree specifications ;

  • Quiet and vibration-free operation .

Result: a reliable, winter-ready system

The Gree HVAC system is back to full performance. The owner was able to avoid a costly replacement thanks to a fast, safe and precise intervention .
Tenant comfort was immediately restored, and heating resumed efficiency in all serviced areas.

We recommended:

  • A complete annual maintenance of the heat pump before each winter;

  • Adding a protective cover for the outdoor unit , to reduce exposure to the elements;

  • And regular checking of electrical connections to prevent this type of fault from recurring.
