A typical Montreal service call: quick diagnosis and lasting repair
At AirGreen , we respond to a variety of situations every day across the greater Montreal area. This time, our team was called to the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood to repair a Gree wall-mounted heat pump installed on a typical brick duplex in the city. The client contacted us after noticing that the outdoor unit was making an abnormal noise and that the indoor temperature was no longer stabilizing, especially during heat spikes.
Initial Inspection: Determine the Origin of the Problem
Upon arrival, we conducted a complete inspection of the installation. Two wall-mounted units were mounted on mid-height metal brackets, typical of residential installations in Montreal. The most recent unit, a Gree brand, was exhibiting inconsistent performance . We first checked:
-
The condition of the condenser and the outdoor fan .
-
The refrigerant pressure level .
-
Electrical connections and communication module between indoor and outdoor units.
Our technicians quickly noticed that the condenser fan was showing signs of wear: intermittent rubbing noise, unusual vibrations and excessive power consumption.
Diagnosis confirmed: tired fan motor
After performing a series of tests with our pressure gauge and Gree diagnostic tools, we confirmed that the outdoor fan motor needed to be replaced. This type of failure is common after several years of operation in varying conditions (harsh winters, hot and humid summers, frequent defrost cycles).
The customer had maintained his heat pump well, but the part in question had simply reached the end of its lifespan.
Intervention: engine replacement and system calibration
We have :
-
Turn off the power and secure the work area.
-
Removed the condenser housing and extracted the worn motor.
-
Installed an original Gree replacement motor , perfectly compatible with the existing model.
-
Thoroughly cleaned the heat exchanger fins.
-
Checked and tightened all electrical connections .
-
Rebooted the system for a full performance test .
The system was back to full operation in less than 45 minutes. The noise level dropped by more than 50%, and the heat pump began producing cool, stable air again.
Maintenance advice provided to the customer
Before leaving the site, our team took the time to explain some good maintenance practices to the client:
-
Clean the internal filter regularly.
-
Keep the outdoor unit clear of any obstacles (vegetation, objects, chairs).
-
Schedule an annual inspection to prevent premature wear.
The client, satisfied with the speed and professionalism of our team, chose to add an AirGreen maintenance contract for his two wall units.
