Repair of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie (Montreal)

A wall-mounted compressor precisely repaired on a brick facade

At AirGreen , we regularly work in Montreal to repair wall-mounted heat pumps installed on brick facades, typical of duplexes and triplexes in the city. This project, carried out in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , involved a Gree outdoor unit installed high up, attached to a metal wall bracket. The client contacted us after noticing an unusual noise and a drop in performance in heating mode .

Initial diagnosis

Upon our arrival, we conducted a complete inspection of the unit. The work environment presented some challenges:

  • The unit was fixed more than two meters above the ground , requiring safe intervention on a ladder .

  • Neighboring wall vents could influence the condenser airflow.

  • The mechanical noise mentioned by the customer indicated a possible problem with the fan or compressor .

After removing the front grille, our technician noticed a buildup of dust and debris around the fan blade. This imbalance was causing abnormal vibrations , amplified by the metal structure of the wall bracket.

Steps of repair

  1. Thorough cleaning of the condenser and propeller
The unit was thoroughly cleaned using a jet of compressed air and a biodegradable product designed for HVAC coils. This cleared obstructions and improved airflow.

  2. Fan Check
The fan motor had slight axial play. We replaced the mounting hub and tightened the counterbalance screws. This small adjustment was enough to eliminate the noise.

  3. Compressor and refrigerant pressure monitoring
A precise measurement of the high and low pressures revealed a slight deficit of R410A refrigerant . After detecting micro-leaks using an electronic detector, we tightened the connections and carried out a measured top-up of the refrigerant.

  4. Complete electrical check
Electrical connections were tightened and operating currents were measured to ensure performance in accordance with Gree specifications.

Results after intervention

Once the heat pump was restarted, it returned to its silent operation and full heating capacity . The indoor temperature became stable again, and the customer immediately noticed an improvement in thermal comfort.

The final test confirmed:

  • A blowing temperature of 46°C in heating mode , i.e. optimal efficiency.

  • Reduced power consumption , proof that the compressor was no longer overloaded.

  • Complete mechanical stability , without vibration or residual noise.

Maintenance advice provided to the customer

To prevent the problem from recurring, we recommended:

  • Clean the internal filters every three weeks during active seasons.

  • Avoid obstacles around the outdoor unit , especially accumulated leaves and dust.

  • To plan annual AirGreen preventive maintenance , to guarantee performance and longevity.

A typical AirGreen precision repair

Gree wall-mounted units are renowned for their robustness, but like any HVAC system, a minor mechanical imbalance can quickly affect indoor comfort. Thanks to our quick and methodical intervention, the system was restored without costly replacement, extending its useful life by several years.
