A service call for loss of air conditioning performance
At AirGreen , we are often called upon for situations where the heat pump appears to be working , but is not delivering the expected performance. This was recently the case in Sainte-Dorothée (Laval) , where a customer contacted us after noticing that their Gree system was no longer cooling their home efficiently despite seemingly normal operation.
The outdoor unit, carefully installed at the base of the rear wall, had slight fouling at the coil , a possible sign of poor maintenance or restricted airflow.
Step 1: Complete System Inspection
Upon our arrival, our technician began with a complete visual and functional diagnosis .
Here are the findings:
-
The Gree outdoor unit, compact and well positioned on a bed of white stones, had not been cleaned for more than two years .
-
The fan was running normally, but the refrigerant pressure appeared lower than normal .
-
Inside, the wall unit was blowing warm air, a clear sign of a refrigerant leak .
We therefore carried out a nitrogen pressure test to precisely locate the leak. It was detected at the flare connection of the suction pipe , a point often vulnerable after several cycles of thermal expansion.
Step 2: Repair and Recharge the System
Once the leak is identified, we have:
-
Replaced the faulty flare and added a new gasket with tightening torque calibrated to Gree specifications.
-
Performed a leak test at 300 psi for 20 minutes to confirm no leaks.
-
Vacuum the system for 45 minutes to remove any residual moisture.
-
Recharged the circuit with R-32 refrigerant , respecting the optimal pressures and evaporation temperature for this model.
As soon as it was restarted, the Gree heat pump returned to impeccable air conditioning performance , blowing air at 8°C at the interior outlet.
Step 3: Prevention tips and recommended maintenance
Gree wall-mounted heat pumps are renowned for their energy efficiency and reliability , but like any HVAC system, they require minimal annual maintenance .
We advised the client:
-
Have the coils of the outdoor unit cleaned every spring.
-
Visually check the refrigeration connections for any traces of oil or seepage.
-
Rinse the area around the unit to avoid the accumulation of grass or dust.
-
Schedule AirGreen maintenance before the hot season , to avoid a breakdown during periods of high demand.
With these simple measures, the heat pump will maintain optimal performance and extend its lifespan .
Result: restored comfort and maximized performance
After the intervention, the customer immediately noticed the difference: uniform freshness throughout the house , without abnormal noises or temperature variations. The Gree system was once again operating at full capacity, with stable energy consumption.
This repair is a perfect example of AirGreen expertise:
