Repair of a Midea wall-mounted heat pump in Longueuil

Rapid intervention in a residential building

A service call came in from a customer in Longueuil , who was concerned that his Midea wall-mounted heat pump was no longer starting. The outdoor unit, installed on the balcony of his condo, was not producing any noise or vibration, while the indoor unit was displaying the operating indicator light.

At AirGreen , we frequently receive this type of request in multi-unit buildings where wall-mounted HVAC systems are installed on narrow balconies. This type of environment presents unique challenges related to ventilation, humidity, and exposure to the elements.

Accurate diagnosis of the problem

Upon arrival, we performed a visual and electrical inspection of the outdoor unit. The Midea wall-mounted compressor , compact and securely mounted against the brick facade, appeared intact, but several clues quickly pointed our technician to a power supply problem :

  • The electrical connections showed traces of oxidation;

  • The external circuit breaker showed unstable voltage;

  • There was no communication between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit.

While checking the electrical continuity, we discovered that an internal fuse in the power module had blown, probably the result of a short circuit caused by moisture accumulating near the terminal block.

Steps of repair

The intervention took place in several meticulous phases to ensure a lasting repair:

  1. Complete disconnection of the power supply and removal of the top cover.

  2. Cleaning the electronics compartment , removing moisture deposits and residues.

  3. Replaced the main fuse and checked the electronic boards to ensure no other components had been damaged.

  4. Renovation of electrical connections with new terminals, protected by heat-shrinkable sheaths.

  5. Added an original Midea power protector , to prevent future power surges.

  6. Complete heating and cooling cycle test : the compressor restarted with stable pressure and constant cold airflow.

Results: Restored performance and increased safety

After the repair, the Midea heat pump returned to its original efficiency. Cold air circulated smoothly through the coils, and the indoor temperature dropped from 26°C to 22°C in less than twenty minutes.

We also installed a discreet anti-condensation drip tray under the base of the unit to prevent water from accumulating on the balcony. This small improvement will extend the life of the system while reducing the risk of moisture on the facade.

The customer, relieved not to have needed to replace his device, particularly appreciated our clear explanation of the problem and our preventive maintenance advice.

Recommended maintenance for balcony heat pumps

Wall installations in condos require special attention. Our technicians always recommend:

  • Clean the internal filters every two months during the summer season;

  • To check the free circulation of air around the external compressor, often obstructed by objects or plants;

  • Perform annual professional maintenance , including checking R-32 refrigerant pressure, testing sensors and cleaning the condensate drain.
