Repair of a Midea wall-mounted heat pump in Pointe-Claire

A condensation problem on the indoor unit

At AirGreen , we were contacted by a client in Pointe-Claire , in the West Island of Montreal, regarding an issue with excessive condensation on a recently installed Midea wall-mounted heat pump . Moisture was accumulating on the face of the indoor unit, causing visible water droplets to form on the front panel—a symptom the client had noticed after several days of intense heat and continuous use of the air conditioning mode.

The appearance of water on the casing of a wall-mounted heat pump may seem trivial, but it often hides an imbalance between temperature, humidity and airflow . Our technicians were therefore quickly dispatched to carry out a complete diagnosis .


Diagnosis: extreme temperature difference and inadequate drainage

After inspection, our team found that:

  • The evaporator temperature sensor was working properly.

  • The condensate drain was free of blockages, but the pipe slope was not sufficient for optimal flow.

  • Airflow was slightly reduced by the clogged filter, which encouraged condensation on the front of the unit.

  • Finally, the ambient humidity level in the house exceeded 70%, which accentuated the phenomenon of dew on cold surfaces.

This combination of factors led to the formation of mist and then drops on the surface of the blower flap.


Intervention: drainage correction and airflow improvement

Our certified technicians carried out several targeted interventions:

  1. Complete cleaning of the filters and the internal exchanger , in order to improve air circulation and lower the internal humidity level.

  2. Readjustment of the drain pipe to ensure a constant slope towards the discharge point.

  3. Insulate the drain outlet with thermal tape to prevent external condensation.

  4. Checking the R410A refrigerant charge , confirming a pressure in accordance with Midea specifications.

  5. Calibrate the interior temperature sensor using the AirGreen diagnostic tool to optimize automatic defrost management.

After restarting, the unit operated without any new droplets appearing on the facade. The customer immediately noticed an improvement in comfort and temperature stability , without excess humidity in the room.


Advice given to the client

Our experts recommended to the client:

  • Use the “DRY” mode (dehumidification) during very humid days, rather than the “COOL” mode.

  • Clean the filters every 4 to 6 weeks during the warm season.

  • Maintain an indoor temperature between 22 and 24°C to avoid significant differences with the outside air.

  • And above all, have the drainage checked at each annual maintenance by an AirGreen certified technician.
