Too warm air during a heatwave: rapid intervention by AirGreen
Among the calls we frequently receive at AirGreen , one from a customer in Boisbriand concerned a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump whose airflow was lukewarm despite a setpoint of 20°C. With outside temperatures exceeding 30°C, the emergency was real: the air conditioning had to be restored without delay.
On site, our technician found that the outdoor compressor appeared to be working, but the indoor unit was not delivering sufficiently cold air . An infrared thermometer displayed 10.7°C at the air outlet , while a unit in perfect condition should be around 7°C or lower to ensure optimal comfort.
Diagnosis: low pressure and fouling of the indoor coil
From the first checks, several clues pointed to a problem with the R-32 refrigerant charge , combined with a clogged evaporator coil . These two factors considerably reduce the heat exchange capacity of the heat pump.
Here are the observations noted:
-
The Sharp indoor unit showed dust buildup in the coil fins;
-
The tangential fan was running, but at a lower speed than normal;
-
The pressures measured on the refrigeration lines indicated a slight undercharge of fluid;
-
No error codes were displayed, ruling out an electronic problem.
Our team therefore established a two-step intervention plan: complete cleaning and readjustment of the refrigerant charge .
Step 1: Thorough cleaning of the indoor unit
After securing the power supply, we removed the front cover and protected the surrounding wall. The inside of the wall module had a thin layer of dust on the evaporator coil , reducing airflow and compromising moisture removal.
We have proceeded to:
-
Low pressure steam cleaning to remove impurities;
-
Antibacterial disinfection of the condensate tray;
-
Flushing the drain to prevent any backflow of water;
-
A check of the blower motor , the bearing of which was beginning to accumulate slight impurities.
This meticulous cleaning immediately improved air circulation.
Step 2: Adjust R-32 Refrigerant Fluid
The second step was to measure the static and dynamic pressure of the system. We found a minimal pressure drop, typically caused by an old and stabilized microleak. After locating and tightening the flare fittings , we added the exact amount of R-32 fluid recommended by the manufacturer Sharp.
The new values were optimal:
-
Suction pressure : 118 psi
-
Discharge temperature : 42°C
-
Blown air temperature : 7.2°C after stabilization
The final test confirmed a temperature difference of more than 13°C between ambient air and supply air—perfect performance for this range of wall-mounted heat pumps.
Result: comfort restored and performance restored
A few minutes after restarting, the room temperature began to drop rapidly. The infrared thermometer , used again at the end of the intervention, displayed 7.1 °C on the blower, proof of restored performance and a complete refrigeration cycle.
The customer immediately felt the difference and told us that he now plans to schedule annual maintenance to avoid dust buildup or similar loss of performance.
AirGreen Expertise: a service combining precision and transparency
Interventions of this type perfectly illustrate our approach: diagnose methodically, explain clearly and repair rigorously .
Our technicians are trained to work on all brands of heat pumps, including Sharp, Fujitsu, Gree, Midea, and Daikin , whether they are R-410A or R-32 .
Each AirGreen repair includes:
-
a complete check of the refrigeration circuit ;
-
a leak test ;
-
blowing temperature control using an infrared thermometer;
-
and a performance report given to the client.
These steps ensure that each system operates at peak efficiency, while extending compressor life and maintaining consistent comfort.
