Rapid intervention for a refrigerant leak
At AirGreen , we are regularly called out for performance issues with wall-mounted heat pumps in the greater Montreal area. On this day, our team went to Sainte-Julie , on the South Shore, to diagnose a Zephyr wall-mounted heat pump that was no longer blowing sufficiently cold air, even in maximum cooling mode.
Diagnosis: loss of efficiency linked to a refrigerant leak
Upon arrival, we noticed that the Zephyr outdoor unit was displaying abnormally low pressures on the digital pressure gauge connected to the service line.
After a series of tests including:
-
verification of static and dynamic pressures ,
-
temperature measurement on the pipes (suction and liquid),
-
and visual inspection of flare fittings ,
We detected a slow leak of refrigerant at the liquid line connection . This gradual loss explained the decrease in efficiency and the lack of air conditioning power observed by the customer.
Intervention: localization, repair and recharging of the system
Our technicians have undertaken the following steps:
-
Safe recovery of residual refrigerant using an approved pink cylinder and an electronic scale to ensure dosage accuracy.
-
Complete cleaning of the flare fittings , followed by resealing with sealing compound and re-tightening to the exact torque recommended by the manufacturer Zephyr.
-
Nitrogen leak test at 300 psi to confirm no microleaks remained.
-
Deep vacuum (500 microns) to eliminate all traces of moisture.
-
Complete recharge of the system with R410A according to the charge indicated on the device nameplate.
Once the recharge was complete, we checked the operating pressures: everything was stable and within the performance parameters of a healthy Zephyr heat pump .
Result: restored comfort and optimized performance
In less than two hours, the wall-mounted heat pump was back to optimal performance , once again providing powerful and quiet cooling . The customer immediately noticed the difference: the indoor temperature returned to a comfortable level, without excess energy consumption.
We also advised the user:
-
to have the system inspected every spring before the hot season,
-
and keep the internal filters clean to avoid air pressure drop and compressor overload.
