ACD electric furnace: the right AH for your FXD central

In the shop, the ACD electric furnace is the AH indoor unit of the ACD FXD central: a high-static-pressure air handler that takes an electric element: 10 or 15 kW (15 kW to be confirmed) for the AH224 and AH236, 20 kW for the AH248 and AH260. Each AH has a single AHRI-certified pairing with an FXD outdoor unit. Pick a size: the “The right AH” tool gives the AH, its outdoor unit, its airflow and the elements listed.

01 · The right AH

One AH per size, one FXD outdoor unit per AH

Pick the central’s size. “The right AH” gives the matching AH, its outdoor unit, its published figures, the electric elements listed and how the AH alone compares with the full system.

Central size

AH models, airflow, static pressure, sound, MCA and MOP, line connections and thermostat: ACD FXD + AH sheet. Pairs: AHRI certificates. Elements: elements listed for ACD AH units, 15 kW to be confirmed; no ACD sheet publishes the electrical current with the element.

The pairing

AH236with the FXD-ACD36 · ACD FXD central, 3-ton

The AH236 pairs with the FXD-ACD36 outdoor unit: together they hold AHRI certificate 207497902 and make the 3-ton ACD FXD central.

LogisVert: not eligible alone

FXD-ACD36 + AH236

NEEP: record 406033

ENERGY STAR: cold climate, record 2415274

LogisVert: the system can be eligible

NEEP and ENERGY STAR records name the outdoor + AH pair. An AH alone has none, and Hydro-Québec excludes replacing a single indoor unit (LogisVert guide 1.10, p. 14).

What the ACD sheet does not publish for the AHs. Neither the filter size, nor the electrical current with the element, nor the sound test conditions (55 to 61 dB(A)). These points are confirmed at the on-site assessment.

02 · AH alone or system

The AH236 alone, or the FXD-ACD36 + AH236 central?

Same indoor unit, two statuses. The registries and Hydro-Québec look at the pair, not the AH alone.

Hydro-Québec excludes from LogisVert the replacement of a single coil or a single indoor or outdoor unit (guide 1.10, p. 14). NEEP record 406033 and ENERGY STAR record 2415274 belong to the FXD-ACD36 + AH236 pair; the AH236 alone has no record. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.

Three details on the AH units of the ACD FXD central

10, 15, 20 kW

The electric element depends on the size

Elements of 10 or 15 kW are listed for the 2- and 3-ton AHs, and 20 kW for the 4- and 5-ton. The 15 kW appears only in the product page text: it is still to be confirmed.

960 to 1,600

The airflow rises with the AH

The ACD sheet gives 960 cfm for the AH224, 1,000 for the AH236, 1,380 for the AH248 and 1,600 for the AH260, one value per model.

04 · Questions

Your questions about the ACD electric furnace

Which AH goes with which FXD outdoor unit?

The AH224 (2 tons) and AH236 (3 tons) pair with the FXD-ACD36 outdoor unit; the AH248 (4 tons) and AH260 (5 tons) with the FXD-ACD60. Each pair has its own AHRI certificate, from 207497901 to 207497904.

AHRI certificates 207497901 to 207497904
How much heat does the electric element of an ACD AH give?

The elements listed for ACD AH units are 10 or 15 kW (15 kW to be confirmed) for 2 and 3 tons, and 20 kW for 4 and 5 tons, that is 34,120, 51,180 or 68,240 BTU/h at their rated power (1 kW = 3,412 BTU/h). No ACD document we read describes the AH without its FXD outdoor unit, or the electrical current with the element: these points are covered at the on-site assessment.

Is an ACD AH alone eligible for LogisVert?

No. The LogisVert guide excludes replacing a single indoor unit, and an AH has no NEEP or ENERGY STAR record of its own. It is the FXD + AH pairs that are on those lists, as cold-climate systems. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.

LogisVert guide 1.10, p. 14; NEEP; ENERGY STAR
Why don’t we give the dimensions of an ACD AH?

The ACD FXD + AH sheet prints two sizes (21 ¼ × 48 ¼ × 21 ¼ in. and 24 ¾ × 57 × 21 ¼ in.) and two weights for four models, without saying which goes with which AH. So we do not assign them to any AH: the space for the unit is measured at the on-site assessment.

Which thermostat for an ACD AH?

The ACD FXD + AH sheet gives a 24 V thermostat control.

What does an ACD electric furnace cost?

Pricing for an ACD AH is by quotation, installation included; the electric element is chosen and priced at the on-site assessment. The in-home estimate is free, with no obligation.
