ZoneAire Premier PTAC
The classic of condos, apartments and hotels: a 42 in. wide unit set in a sleeve that goes through the wall.
- Heat pump (PDH) or air conditioner (PDE)
- 7,000 to 15,000 BTU/h
- 16 × 42 in. sleeve, 13 ¾ in. deep
Friedrich makes three units that go through the wall: the ZoneAire Premier PTAC for 42 × 16 in.sleeves, the Vert-I-Pak that hides in a closet, and the Uni-Fit for 24 ½ to 27 in. sleeves. We start from what is already in your wall, choose the right model with you and install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and the North Shore.
To scaleDimensions in inches from the 2026 Friedrich submittals (XFR-1670, XFR-1673, Uni-Fit 10-02-24). Dotted Vert-I-Pak: the 24,000 BTU/h model, 52 in. tall.
All three plug into a receptacle and exchange air with the outdoors through a louver in the wall. What changes is the shape of the opening and where the unit sits.

The classic of condos, apartments and hotels: a 42 in. wide unit set in a sleeve that goes through the wall.

A vertical packaged heat pump hidden in a closet; a louver in the wall, a short duct to one or two rooms.

The through-the-wall air conditioner that replaces the old one without a bigger hole: it reuses most 24 ½ to 27 in. sleeves.
Friedrich designs its PTACs, VTACs and Uni-Fit units for the openings found in condos, apartments and hotels. AirGreen starts from what is already in your wall, picks the model with you and installs it.
The result: the right Friedrich format, in the opening that is already there.
Two or three answers are enough. Every rule comes from the 2026 Friedrich submittals and manuals; anything we cannot confirm remotely stays “price on quotation”.
The heat pump (PDH) heats with its compressor and keeps an electric heater as backup. The air conditioner (PDE) cools and heats with its heater only. The same 42 × 16 in. sleeve for all eight.
R-32 generation values (Friedrich submittal 09/2026). The exact model supplied and its values are on the quotation.
The same PTAC can heat with a 2.5, 3.5 or 5.0 kW heater: all it takes is the right cord, plus a receptacle and breaker rated for it. Pick the receptacle already on the wall.
Factory cord on the 7,000, 9,000 and 12,000 BTU/h sizes.
Values from the power cord table of submittal XFR-1670 (Rev. 02, 09/2026), 230/208 V models. 265 V models (ending in R) use NEMA 7 receptacles and a subbase; they are price on quotation.
A PTAC or a VTAC is not a cold-climate wall heat pump: below a certain point, the electric heater takes over. Slide the cursor to see who heats and how.
Below about -2 °C, the PTAC switches to electric heat until it is back to 4 °C outside.
Friedrich rates the heat pump down to -12 °C; the heater adds in when the thermostat calls for it and during defrost. Below 0 °C, the 18,000 and 24,000 BTU/h need the VPDP2LA pan.
Friedrich designs it to cool when it is between 16 °C and 46 °C outside; it does not heat.
Friedrich thresholds: ZoneAire Premier PTAC switches to electric heat at about -2 °C (28 °F) and back to the compressor at about 4 °C (40 °F), manual 94141010_04; Vert-I-Pak, heat pump rated down to -12 °C (10 °F), submittal XFR-1673 Rev. 03; Uni-Fit, cooling above 16 °C (60 °F), manual 93011015_03.
The Vert-I-Pak is a vertical packaged heat pump: it sits in a closet, draws outdoor air through a wall plenum and supplies the room through a short duct. Every 2026 model is a heat pump with backup electric heat.
23 × 23 in. base. Dotted: 52 in., the tallest.
Friedrich submittal XFR-1673 Rev. 03 (09/26), 208/230 V and 265 V models, R-32.
Outdoor cut-out of 24 ⅝ × 30 ⅞ in.; adjustable plenums for walls of 5 ½ to 8 in. or 8 to 14 in.
The return is not ducted; the return grille must offer at least 250 sq. in. of free area.
On the 18,000 and 24,000 BTU/h, the VPDP2LA pan is required to run the heat pump below 0 °C (32 °F).
The VPASA1 adapter fits First Company SPXR small-chassis sleeves, for the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU/h.
The Uni-Fit chassis is designed for existing sleeves 24 ½ to 27 in. wide. Friedrich requires replacing the old sleeve’s rear grille with the one supplied. It cools; it does not heat like a heat pump.
The 10,000 BTU/h Uni-Fit is the smallest size that covers this need.
Sizing guide from the Uni-Fit submittal (Rev. 10-02-24): normally insulated room, two people; -10% if heavily shaded, +10% if very sunny, +4,000 BTU/h for a kitchen.

The terms below are those of the 2026 Friedrich warranty certificates. The start date and conditions of each warranty are under the bars.
Rheem limited warranty for PTAC and VTAC, 99304401_00 Rev. 1 (09/2026), for models sold after September 30, 2026.
We would rather tell you before the quotation: no Friedrich PTAC, VTAC or Uni-Fit qualifies for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant.
Want a grant? A certified wall or central heat pump can qualify. We compare both options in the same quotation.
Each installation is an article on our “Nos réalisations” blog, with photos. The count includes installations only, not service calls.

By region By unit By yearFriedrich states its PTACs fit other brands’ sleeves without a baffle kit. The manual specifies a 16 × 42 in. sleeve no deeper than 13 ¾ in.; beyond that, a baffle kit is needed. An older Friedrich T-Series sleeve needs the PXSE adapter.
