The CHU 12,000 in dark grey: the warmest 12,000 at -30°C, in the rarest colour.
Sharp calls this finish Dark Gray; on our site, it’s the CHU “black”. Only three Sharp models have it, and this is the only CHU among them. Same unit as the white one: 9,700 BTU/h at -30°C and $2,268 in LogisVert. We install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore.
The CHU 12,000 in dark grey
Same unit as the white one according to Sharp: only the front changes. ENERGY STAR, Oct. 8, 2026; Sharp spec sheet, January 2026; Hydro-Québec, Oct. 6, 2026.
Put it on your wall, then decide.
Dark grey almost disappears on a dark or wood wall; white blends into a pale one. Try both.
On-screen colours are a guide only: the real shade changes with the room’s lighting.
One size: 12,000 BTU/h, in dark grey.
The bars show maximum heat by outdoor temperature. Switch to white to compare: the figures don’t change.

Dark grey or white, the same heat down to -30°C.
The front changes, not the unit: both AHRI numbers have the same ENERGY STAR figures.
Maximum heat: Sharp spec sheets (-20°C to -30°C) and ENERGY STAR (-8°C and -15°C). Montreal temperatures: MétéoMédia (2021 and 2025) and 1871-2024 records.
Smaller on paper, warmer everywhere: the CHU 12,000 beats the CU 15,000 at every temperature.
Both come in dark grey. At every published temperature, from -8°C to -30°C, the CHU 12,000 delivers more heat.
The CU 15,000 gets a little less LogisVert ($2,172 against $2,268) and suits other needs: we discuss it at the visit. Heat in BTU/h: ENERGY STAR (-8°C, -15°C) and Sharp spec sheets (-20°C to -30°C).
Dark, and nearly silent: 22 dB at its lowest.

How Sharp describes its ions
A small electrical discharge produces positive and negative ions surrounded by water molecules.
On a surface, these ions combine into OH radicals.
According to Sharp, these radicals remove hydrogen from surface proteins, which reduces their activity.

Sharp gave the CHU a dark grey version; we make sure it’s mounted straight, centred, with a clean line set, because a dark front doesn’t forgive sloppy work.

What people ask us about the dark grey CHU.
It’s the name we gave Sharp’s “Dark Gray” finish. It is a dark grey.
Yes. According to Sharp, only the front changes; ENERGY STAR lists the same figures for both (AHRI 217512733 and 217512736): 18,900 BTU/h at -8°C.
For the same size, the CHU keeps more heat in extreme cold: at -30°C, the CHU 12,000 delivers 9,700 BTU/h, while the CU 12,000 stops at -27°C. The CHU also has a motion sensor and an ion indicator. The CU offers more sizes and its heads work on the multi-zone.
No. According to the Sharp CU/CHU manual, CHU units don’t connect to a multi-zone system. For several rooms on one outdoor unit, look at the CU multi-zone.
