Quick facts
Up to 20 kW of backup heat and an ECM motor: the 3-ton Duotec
What the AHV120017 is for
A central heat pump needs an indoor cabinet to push air through the ducts and, in Quebec, backup heat for the deep cold. The Dettson AHV120017, from the Duotec series, combines both in a 3-ton (36,000 BTU) size: a 1/2 HP variable-speed ECM motor and the option of adding an EHIA electric heat kit. The heat pump coil goes in a separate cabinet.
It suits cottages and mid-sized homes switching to a central heat pump, or replacing an old air handler on existing ductwork.
Backup heat: what Dettson permits
For this size, Dettson permits 5, 10, 15 and 20 kW EHIA kits, each tied to a motor tap: D for 5 kW, C for 10 kW, B for 15 to 20 kW. The kits are factory approved and installed in the field. If you do not want electric backup heat, the EHIA00KN10 kit (0 kW) is provided for that purpose.
Power, airflow and installation
The cabinet is dual voltage: 115, 208 or 230 V, single phase. Without a heater, minimum ampacity is 6.5 A at 120 V, 3.8 A at 208 V and 3.3 A at 240 V, with 15 A maximum overcurrent protection. With a kit, the circuit is sized for the kit chosen.
The ECM motor covers a range of 415 to 1,600 CFM (196 to 755 L/s), which leaves room to set the airflow for the coil and the outdoor unit. The cabinet installs upflow, downflow, horizontal left or horizontal right. The filter is not supplied: Dettson requires a remote filter grille or other means of filtration.
Grant and warranty
Sold alone, this air handler has no certified efficiency rating and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant, which follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. If you are replacing the complete system, we check that the pair qualifies before you sign. Dettson warrants parts for 5 years in residential use; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
Installation by AirGreen

The Duotec air handler for 3-ton central heat pumps
The AHV120017 pushes the air of a central heat pump with a variable-speed ECM motor. The coil sits in a separate cabinet; backup heat, from 5 to 20 kW, is added with an EHIA kit.
- Cottages and mid-sized homes with a 3-ton central heat pump
- Projects that want 15 or 20 kW of electric backup heat in the cabinet
- Buildings where the available supply is 115 V, 208 V or 230 V
- Upflow, downflow or horizontal installation, depending on the mechanical room

What to know before installing
- Sold alone: the LogisVert grant follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. Bought alone, this air handler does not qualify.
- Only Dettson-approved EHIA kits are permitted, installed in the field with the motor tap shown for each rating; without heat, the EHIA00KN10 kit (0 kW) is used.
- Without heater: minimum ampacity of 6.5 A at 120 V, 3.8 A at 208 V and 3.3 A at 240 V; 15 A maximum overcurrent protection. With a kit, the supply is sized for the kit.
- Filter not supplied: plan for a remote filter grille or other means of filtration.
- Coil not included: it goes in a separate coil cabinet.
- Dettson warranty: parts 5 years in residential use. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions
How much backup heat can be installed?
For the AHV12, Dettson permits 5 kW (EHIA05KN), 10 kW (EHIA10KN), 15 kW (EHIA15KB) and 20 kW (EHIA20KB) EHIA kits. The rating is chosen based on the house and the available supply; we determine it during the estimate.
What does the ECM motor bring?
This cabinet’s variable-speed ECM motor covers a range of 415 to 1,600 CFM. The airflow is set to suit the coil and the outdoor unit, instead of being limited to a few fixed speeds.
Can it be connected to 115 V?
Yes. Dettson rates it for 115, 208 or 230 V, single phase. At 120 V, without a heater, minimum ampacity is 6.5 A and maximum overcurrent protection is 15 A. With a heat kit, we size the supply for the kit.
Are the filter and coil included?
No. The coil goes in a separate cabinet, and Dettson requires a remote filter grille or other means of filtration. We include both in the quote.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
Not when bought alone: Hydro-Québec’s grant follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. For a complete system, we check eligibility in the quote.
